Hello Westside Village Families!
Here are a few things to look out for this week:

End of Year Message from Wendy

Dear Westside Village Families,

Thank you for a fantastic year! Our students made huge progress in understanding and upholding dignity in each other and themselves. Our staff is very proud of the academic and social emotional progress the collective community has made. WVMS experienced fabulous peak moments this year—from a range of fun and innovative learning experiences.

Our school is focused on Thematic, Project-Based Learning and our students have soared in exploring and learning about the untold stories. The knowledge students gained was astonishing. The students created incredible projects integrating the arts and sciences. Please read your child’s narrative; facilitators worked very hard on those and your child’s Benchmark Card. Copy of How to Read My Child’s Benchmark Card and Narrative

The number of parent and community volunteer hours at our school was incredible, led by our new Friends Board President, Becky Dorman.  Our giving campaign earned enough to provide new materials, supplies, treats, healthy snacks, and playground, art and science supplies.  Thank you!!

A big huge thank you goes out to our outstanding volunteers. We cannot continue to offer an educational program without our devoted volunteers. Many families and staff volunteered hours and gave up their free time to build our community. They are appreciated! Westside Village is looking forward to tapping into more of our family talent and time to continue to build a stronger Service-Learning focus in our community.

We know our students believe they can make a difference. They have the power and courage to create a better world and we have no doubt that they will succeed. We send out our best wishes for fun, success and happiness to our 8th graders as they move on to a new stage of their lives. We can’t wait to hear about their adventures.

If you have questions or ideas to share, please email Wendy (Ms. J) at [email protected]. Wendy will be back at school the 3rd week of August. We want and love feedback and ideas to make our community stronger.

We hope you have time this summer to get outside, hike, camp, play in the water, and relax. Have a fun-filled summer with reading, adventures, and time with family.

Be safe, have fun and have an outstanding summer!

Take Care,

Wendy & WVMS Staff

We will pre-print name badges for those that RSVP, so you can skip that line. If you purchase online, that will count as your RSVP.

Price is $5.50 for adults and $3.50 for siblings. WVMS student meals will be free of charge, but any family attending will need to pay for their meal. Exact change is appreciated, or you can buy your meal online here.

Coast Trip, May 27-29

4th – 8th grade families: We are headed to the Oregon Coast May 27 – 29! The students will stay in Newport and meals will be at South Beach State Park (the group sites).

We love chaperones! We will be sending home more information and a form to sign up soon. Most chaperones stay in a hotel in Newport or book a campsite at South Beach State Park (there could be some room at the group sites; let us know if you are interested).

Coast Trip information, permission slip packets and VRB credit vouchers will be coming home soon. The cost is $225 this year.  Those that sold tickets, worked VRB, babysat, or helped after school will receive a credit voucher and should deduct that amount from $225 to get the total owed.  Feel free to call the office if you have questions or if you need a scholarship.

State Testing Has Started!

State testing began this week. Please make sure your student shows up to school well rested and with a charged iPad!

2025-26 Oregon Statewide Tests (OSAS)

This school year our 3rd through 8th grade students will take the Oregon Statewide Tests. Parents have the right to opt their child out of the English Language Arts and/or the Math tests. We have made it a mission to be creative and smart about how we administer the OR Statewide Tests. We are not going to make students sit for hours at a time testing; we are going to offer them fun snacks, breaks when needed, and all the support we can give. We would like to take this opportunity to turn this challenge into a fun and meaningful experience.

Here are links to the Annual Notice for Statewide Testing – this contains information about the testing and the Opt-Out Form.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week is May 4-8

Our teachers and staff show up for our kids every single day — time to show up for them. Friends of Westside is throwing a Beach Bash in the teachers’ lounge all week long: snacks, meals, a raffle, and the good vibes they absolutely deserve.

Here’s how you can help make it happen:

Here are some ways students can participate throughout the week:

  • Bring a handmade card, artwork, or note of gratitude
  • Gift a favorite snack
  • Pick or buy flowers
  • Gift a needed school supply to your teachers
  • Offer a small act of kindness or encouragement
  • Get creative! Show gratitude in your own way.

Let’s make it a week they won’t forget!
