Nurse Updates

September 16th, 2024

We are having a Medicaid Training meeting for nurses on Wednesday 9/25 from 2-3pm with April Diehl.

Please make every attempt to be at this meeting as the nursing team will be required to start billing Medicaid for student care. Elk Meadow library.

The October 2024 schedule has been added. Please take a minute to look it over. As we get more sub nurses trained, I am working to cover direct care schools at least once a week so nurses can spend a day at their non-direct care schools each week.

September 18th

All nurse meeting at the Ed Center in room 203. We will have a feeding team info session and Sarah Van Meter from Deschutes County Health Department speaking on immunizations and Measles. Bring any immunization questions you have!

September 25th

All nurse meeting for Medicaid training 2-3 in the Elk Meadow library.

Here are updates made to the Nurse Services Manual the week of September 9-13:

  1. The flyer with the QR Code and link to the training documentation form was updated to the new version (p. 188).
  2. The Asthma HMP and Assessment forms were updated to include guidance on keeping students inside based on AQI>100 (p. 70, 71, 199).
  3. Incorrect guidance was removed from the Tube Feeding guidelines. Medication administration through tube feeding CAN be delegated (p. 151).
  4. A link to a Tip Sheet on sending Encrypted emails was added to the guidelines on Communicating Health Information (p. 24)
  5. The Suicidal Ideation and NSSI sections were updated based on feedback from Jamie Gunter. Changes include removing the Risk Assessment Flow Chart for Nurses (which contained incorrect guidance on inputting to Synergy), adding  a video tutorial on inputting NSSI concerns into StudentSafe, and adding resources for parents and students (p. 122). Jamie’s contact information was also added (p. 98).

Some of the original Narcan/Naloxone we received are expiring in October. Can you please check yours and update the AED Master Spreadsheet. If you scroll to the right side, you can enter expiration dates. Email Michelle if your school will need more Narcan/Naloxone once your supply expires in October. We received extra last year so most schools should have plenty.

The FDA extended the expiration date for Naloxone Nasal Spray from 3 years to 4 years on products manufactured after 1/17/24. It does not extend the products manufactured prior to that date. For more info.
