Dear Creek Families,
Somehow, it’s already November! It’s been an extraordinarily beautiful Fall season, and now winter is creeping in. Time to get the winter gear out and ready—I may not be ready for winter just yet, but I am excited about all that the snow brings!
In this newsletter:
*Winter’s coming, label those clothes
*Mountain Air Fundraiser Wednesday, November 8!
*Immunization informational session
*Veteran’s Day lunch
*Talent Show is coming…
*Thank you from our FAN advocate
*Monthly article to share
The annual auction is set for March 10 but preparations are well underway. One very important part of the auction is the art created by our students. There is a small committee that is currently doing the concept work for the class projects and soon we are going to need help to do the work. We are looking for a few parents from each class to help support the creation of these projects (no art skills necessary, but certainly welcome). We are looking for parents who would be willing to give 3-4 hours of time during the school day (exact times will be decided once volunteers have stepped forward). We anticipate the art work taking place in December and/or January. Please contact me to let me know you might be interested (even if you’re not 100% sure, just reach out to me): [email protected]
As the temperatures begin to drop and the winter gear comes out, please be sure to label your children’s clothing—including hats, gloves, boots, scarves, etc. Please also keep in mind that we continue to have break times outside until the temperature drops below 20 degrees, so be sure your kiddo has warm enough gear to stay warm outside.
Mountain Air Fundraiser, November 8 from 2-5pm
Who’s ready to jump for Amity? Join us November 8th at Mountain Air Trampoline Park. Show up any time between 2-8 pm with your flyer and $5 from each jumper goes directly to Amity Creek (you must have the flyer)! The coupon below can be printed and brought with you or you can pick up a flyer at school just outside the office. We hope to see you there!
As we approach the kindergarten immunization exclusion date of November 16th (it’s in February for all others), we know that parents sometimes hesitate to have their children fully immunized. In an effort to answer concerns/questions, Dr. Jennifer Lachman, a local pediatrician and Amity parent, is offering an informal Q & A regarding immunizations on Wednesday morning, November 8th from 8:00-8:40 am. Grab some goodies from Cafe Amity and join us in Lindsey’s room. If you have any questions before the Q & A, email Nurse Kim at [email protected]
To celebrate and honor those who have served our country in the armed forces, Bend La Pine Schools will be offering lunch at no cost to any family member of our students or staff who are either active members of the military or veterans, on Thursday, November 9th in all of our elementary schools. If you have a family member who is an active member of the military or a veteran, please invite them to join us for lunch. Lunch is served at 11:45am.

Article to share
As we are headed in to the seasons of gratitude and giving I wanted to share an article about nurturing your child’s innate desire to help and to give—it’s really worth the read: https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/how_to_help_kids_learn_to_love_giving
If the article inspires you to get out and give with your child there are many organizations in Bend that support needy families in our community, and this time of year there is always greater need. Here are a few organizations that I know of, but there are more. I am not advocating one organization over another, but wanted to share a few that I know of:
Family Access Network: http://familyaccessnetwork.org/—many of you are already familiar with this local agency that is connected to the schools and that supports many, many children and families in our community, including here at Amity
Hunger Prevention Coalition: http://www.hungerpc.org/?page_id=2
Bend Community Center: http://www.bendscommunitycenter.org/programs/feed-the-hungry
Bethlehem Inn: https://bethleheminn.org/
