December 2019 Newsletter

Welcome Back!
I hope the Thanksgiving week was full of good family time and lots of good food (especially the pies you bought during the fundraiser!) I had the great fortune to be in Los Angeles to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday, and I also was able to get away to Hogwart’s for a quick visit…

(This might have been taken at Universal Studios…maybe)

Somehow it’s December already! I have to say that I am very thankful for the beautiful, long Fall season that we had and now I am really appreciating the onset of winter–I love this time of year! And, we’re all looking forward to the next 3 weeks before winer break.

670 pounds of food collected!
We collected an incredible 670 pounds of food for the Bend Food Project’s Giving Plate! I’m so please by this generosity and look forward to continuing to support the Giving Plate through future food collections and involvement by our Grade 5 students. Thank you to all that were able to participate!

Time for Warm Clothes!
With the beautiful arrival of winter it’s time to be sure your child has all the warm clothes they need to play outside. As long as it’s above a toasty 20 degrees we’ll be out on the playground, so please make sure your child is prepared!

Label, label, label
You’ve seen this title before, but it’s time for a reminder. With winter setting in your kiddos will be bringing more and more clothing to school and it’s vital that you label EVERYTHING. Let’s be sure all that warm gear that you have secured for your child does not go missing!

Let’s Talk Math–Thursday, December 12th
Do you ever find yourself saying “Well, that’s not how they taught math when I was a kid”? Or maybe you’re having difficulty understanding an approach your child is using to solve a math problem? Next Thursday, December 12th Frans is offering the opportunity to come chat with him about math, hear about about the current state of math instruction, learn more about how math is being taught today, and answer questions you may have. Please join us for this informative discussion starting at 5:30pm.

Holiday Meal
Each year we have an annual Holiday Meal prepared by food services and this year it is on Thursday, December 19. All family members are invited to join us starting at 11am. Cost is $4.00 for adults, $3.00 for siblings (non-Amity students) and we kindly request that you try and pay in advance. Envelopes are available just outside the office–please write “For Holiday Meal” and your child’s name on the envelope.

Variety Show Date is set!
Get your calendars out and be sure to get March 5 blocked out for the big show! Lots more details to follow, we just want to be sure you have this on your calendar.

Cafe Amity
We’ve have had some great turnouts for our monthly Cafe Amity and we look forward to Grade 3 hosting this Friday! The Cafe opens at 7:30am and closes at 8:15am (or when we run out). Don’t forget to order your coffee via the Friends of Amity website: All bagged coffee orders must be received by TUESDSAY afternoon. As a reminder, all proceeds from Cafe Amity and coffee sales go directly to support our music and visual arts programs.

Inclement Weather Guidelines
With winter settling in it’s a good idea to stay connected to potential school closures or start time delays. Click here for general information about delays and closures and be sure to get signed up on BL Connect (automatic notifications) if you have not already done so:
