{"id":913,"date":"2024-01-25T18:24:29","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T18:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/blscounselors\/?p=913"},"modified":"2024-01-25T18:24:30","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T18:24:30","slug":"1-26-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/blscounselors\/2024\/01\/25\/1-26-24\/","title":{"rendered":"1.26.24"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All Counselors: Crisis Response Volunteers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are now taking additional volunteers for the BLS District Crisis Response and Support Team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Crisis Response and Support Team (CRST) is designed to support schools through a crisis, such as a sudden death or an accident.&nbsp; This team aids in restoring stability in the wake of a crisis by supporting students and staff members experiencing loss, grief or trauma. Trained staff members provide mental health triage, manage staff and student support rooms, and provide respite support to school staff to allow for self-care breaks during a crisis event response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CRST provides assistance after the death or serious injury of a student\/s or staff member and\/or a traumatic event or any event which polarizes, isolates, or shocks people, such as a natural disaster.&nbsp; Each response is specific and designed based on the needs of the school.&nbsp; Typical support can look like:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Support Rooms for students and\/or staff in crisis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teacher Respite (cover classrooms when a break is needed)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coping strategy information for building staff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Answering phones for Front Office Staff<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assisting staff in delivering (district provided) messages to students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Monitor Hallways and school grounds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Follow deceased student&#8217;s class schedule and deliver (district provided) messages to students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assist in Staff debriefing at the end of day<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">View full flyer&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Bjq0RoMGW2tBXm-Mw8JxjMAvhjcdTOzxcmkQchD4ag0\/edit?usp=sharing\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interested in volunteering? They will be at the fair next week, so make sure you stop by their table!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a brief overview of the variety of services we can refer our families to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>Description of Services<\/u>&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cascade Youth &amp; Family Center (CYFC) began providing services to runaway and homeless youth (RHY) or youth experiencing in Deschutes County in 1989. CYFC is the only provider of comprehensive services to RHY in Central Oregon.&nbsp; The Comprehensive Youth-Centered Service Model is an asset based Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CYFC involves youth in advisory roles and creates strong connections with community partners. CYFC prevents negative consequences to RHY by providing 24\/7 access to shelter, a 24\/7 crisis hot line, gateway services, screening &amp; assessment, coordinated case management, counseling, resource navigation, aftercare services and collaborative service linkages in locations that are easy for RHY to access. Shelter services are provided through Host Homes or in dedicated beds at the CYFC youth shelters located in Bend and Redmond. Case management services are available to any family or youth regardless of sheltering or runaway\/homeless status.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CYFC provides family mediation, working to reunite youth with their families, strengthening family relationships and encourage stable living conditions for youth.&nbsp; Specific goals of CYFC are as follows: &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>-24-hour crisis hotline &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Information and Referral services &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Emergency shelter for up to 21 days &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Gateway Services &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Transportation &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Intake and Assessment &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Family counseling\/mediation including referral to community resources and partners&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Individualized Case Management to include the following: Development of a Client Service Plan; Group or individual counseling; Positive Youth Development to be included in individualized Client Service Plans for youth; Substance Abuse Screening and referral &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Aftercare will be provided for youth and their families to include the following: Follow-up case management and support, ongoing family mediation&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>-Case coordination with schools and other area service providers \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1FG5nf2DhUd1K2Qe7P-bv3lpyyEmejUwG\/edit?usp=drive_link&amp;ouid=115676699866611395475&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\">Referral Form <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">High School:  SchooLinks College Application Updates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">High School Counselors: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we navigate through the college application process with our seniors, it is crucial to ensure that we have accurate and up-to-date information on their application status in SchooLinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please take a moment to remind seniors to update their College Application Status in SchooLinks. This will contribute to the accuracy of our data on college application submissions and results. As we continue to utilize SchooLinks, regularly updating admissions and applications will provide valuable insights for both upcoming students and ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seniors will also be prompted to complete this task in their End of Year Senior Survey\/Task in SchooLinks. At the fair, students and families will have the opportunity to interact with professionals from different fields, gain insights into the innovative Schoolinks website, and explore various post-high school options such as the military, trade schools, gap years, and entry-level career positions.
