For those of us who work in libraries, weeding is a task that needs to be done periodically. It can be a dreaded task, but it can also bring new life to a library by making room for new books and allowing space for books to be faced out in order to entice readers (as well as many other reasons). Weeding is not something you do willy-nilly. There are specific guidelines that should be followed.

The question is, once you weed, what do you do with all of those books? We have procedures on what to do with them and yet, today I came across another idea in an article in School Library Journal regarding what to do with those weeded books: Graffiti Books! Now mind you, after you read this article, please don’t go weeding just for the sake of getting books for this idea. 😂 Make sure you follow those weeding guidelines I mentioned above.
