{"id":41,"date":"2017-08-28T17:13:49","date_gmt":"2017-08-28T17:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/brian.kissell\/?p=41"},"modified":"2017-08-28T18:12:36","modified_gmt":"2017-08-28T18:12:36","slug":"weekly-update-82817-9117","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/brian.kissell\/2017\/08\/28\/weekly-update-82817-9117\/","title":{"rendered":"Weekly Update 8\/28\/17-9\/1\/17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Welcome!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am extremely pleased to introduce and welcome Jay Carlton to our team as our new Elementary Resource Teacher. \u00a0Jay has extensive experience working with students with disabilities from elementary and secondary settings. \u00a0He relocated to Bend with his wife and two children a couple years ago. \u00a0I look forward to introducing him to everyone next week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Off Site Events Planning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are planning a culmination off site (i.e. Summit Auditorium) please let Shawna know asap. \u00a0We want to reserve spaces as soon as possible to ensure we have the needed spaces. \u00a0Please also be sure to ask for it to be added to the staff calendar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Correction<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please note a mistake on the Friday bullet point in the Welcome Letter. \u00a0The day is a flex day however it is day 189 and the dates for Friday, Tuesday are from last year. \u00a0It is correct now, but sorry for any confusion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>School Design<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to read the attached reading selection. \u00a0The reading selection provides addition context to our school design learning process. \u00a0I found it extremely helpful for my understanding and my hope is you will too. \u00a0Please click on the link below;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/a\/gapps.bend.k12.or.us\/file\/d\/0B_alwkmh9JPvXzBCU0gwZUpXa1U\/view?usp=sharing\">Blueprint vs. process\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Assessments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have some changes to our assessments this year. \u00a0We will no longer be administering the ACT to our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. \u00a0CBM is evidently just as predictive when it comes to Smarter Balance testing and it cost less so the district will no longer be using the test. \u00a0We will get more details of the Assessment Calendar soon, but I wanted to share that bit of information now. \u00a0Since we still have some work to do in order to get our math assessments established and ready to use for EBISS purposes we will continue to use CBM for all our students. \u00a0It is a relatively easy test to administer and it adds a data point for reference, so until we have our own assessment system established it will serve as our data for comparison.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a link to the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/a\/gapps.bend.k12.or.us\/file\/d\/0B_alwkmh9JPvaV9IM0VnbVBFbm8\/view?usp=sharing\">district assessment calendar<\/a>. \u00a0I will also add the pertinent dates to our google calendar a little later this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2017-2018 Observations\/Evaluation Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For those of you who will be completing the evaluation this year, the process remains the same as before. \u00a0For those of you who are not completing the evaluation this year, you will only have <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">three<\/span> minis for the year. \u00a0Everyone is still required to complete Student Learning Growth Goals. \u00a0For more info please see the following document <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/a\/gapps.bend.k12.or.us\/file\/d\/0By9sJRluBirgdnpWeVFqcmxBVUU\/view?usp=sharing\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Minis will be focussed on the school design work with one or more of our three goals. \u00a0In addition to looking for evidence to support our design work I will often be observing lessons with some of the following questions in mind;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What moves do we make to establish and maintain equal social status for all students?<\/li>\n<li>What are students learning?
