{"id":605,"date":"2020-05-18T17:57:53","date_gmt":"2020-05-18T17:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/brian.kissell\/?p=605"},"modified":"2020-05-18T17:57:53","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T17:57:53","slug":"5-18-20-weekly-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/brian.kissell\/2020\/05\/18\/5-18-20-weekly-update\/","title":{"rendered":"5\/18\/20 Weekly Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Social Distancing reminder whenever on campus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stay 6 feet apart.<\/li><li>Wash hands often.<\/li><li>Wipe down the surfaces you use.<\/li><li>Know you can report anyone to me who is not observing these guidelines.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Meetings:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All Staff&nbsp; &#8211; Wednesday 3:00&nbsp;<\/li><li>Grade Level Check-Ins;<ul><li>5\/18 Monday K &#8211; 1:00<\/li><li>5\/19 Tuesday &#8211; 2nd\/3rd -2:45<\/li><li>5\/20 Wednesday &#8211; 4th\/5th- 1:00<\/li><li>5\/21 Thursday&nbsp; &#8211; 1st &#8211; 3:00<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>5th Grade Graduation<\/strong> &#8211; Thursday, 5\/4 from 9:00-12:00.&nbsp; Drive-thru celebration.&nbsp; More details to follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Final Week of School<\/strong> &#8211; June 8th-11th.&nbsp; This week is designated for your end of the year conversations with families as well as any final pick up of materials for families.&nbsp; I am not sure how to best deal with any further need for picking up materials and I am open to your input &#8211; do you want to deal with it class by class, day by day?&nbsp; Or do you need a larger more organized day?&nbsp; Please send me a quick email with your preference or let\u2019s talk during the grade level meetings this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2nd-5th-grade iPads <\/strong>&#8211; we did get confirmation these will be allowed to stay home for the summer.&nbsp; We should be getting a one-pager from Skip\u2019s team intended for parents to provide some guidelines for summer use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Class Placements:<\/strong> If you are not going to be able to meet the deadline this Wednesday 5\/20, then let me know otherwise we will move into the next phase of this process the following week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Report Cards:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Report cards are ready for you.<\/li><li>You will not be able to insert marks (on their report card entry window in Synergy TeacherVue) on the items displaying an \u2018NA\u2019 or \u2018N\/A\u2019.&nbsp; These areas are grayed out on their views in Synergy.<\/li><li>You will not be able to insert or modify the Semester 2 Comment.<\/li><li>The marks of \u2018P\u2019 and \u2018I\u2019 are now available in the drop-down list that displays the available marks for the report cards.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My advice;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Look for any reason or cause possible to give the \u201cP\u201d.<\/li><li>If you are not comfortable with giving the \u201cP\u201d, then use the \u201cNA\u201d.<\/li><li>If I am being totally honest I am not sure any benefit comes from using the \u201cI\u201d on a report card at this time.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you do use the \u201cI\u201d then it goes without saying that your end of the year conversation with parents should be focused on the justification for the \u201cI\u201d.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>If the justification has anything to do with what you feel you are observing through distance learning or any lack of engagement then the \u201cI\u201d is not appropriate and you will find yourself in a difficult position to defend.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Question, Persuade, Refer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will have staff training on QPR scheduled for February 2021, however, if you are interested&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The QPR Gatekeeper course is taught in a clear, concise format using the latest in educational technology and practices. The course takes approximately one hour to complete.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key components covered in training:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>-How to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal.<\/li><li>-How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide<\/li><li>-The common causes of suicidal behavior.&nbsp;<\/li><li>-The warning signs of suicide.<\/li><li>-How to get help for someone in crisis.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trainings are provided by Certified QPR Instructors in Oregon.
