If you haven’t submitted certificates for April (or March….), please do so. You can put them in the gold basket in the workroom and Jon will congratulate these students on morning announcements and deliver the certificate during class.

Next Friday’s spirit day is “Book Character Day”.

Kindergarten Kick Off- The kindergarten team will be having a kick off for incoming kindergartners next Thursday from 5:00-6:00. They will be testing at various times each morning. The first week will be the ELA and the second week will be the math. Fifth graders will also be completing a science test before June. Please be conscious of testing and do not enter classrooms while testing is taking place unless you have completed TA training. For grades k-2, you still can adopt a class. There are 8 (of 9) still available. There may be some sped/ title groups impacted during these weeks. We are doing our best to schedule in a way that only impacts those groups for grades 3, 4 and 5, but there may be unavoidable situations where you might have a group cancelled. Please be flexible and patient as meeting all of the accommodations and designated supports for students is challenging.

Third, fourth and fifth grade teachers- You will be getting a separate email with reminders/ directions. Please complete the security training and submit the test security assurance form if you haven’t already done so. As soon as I have that, I can enter you into the system.

Erin’s Law- Thanks to those who have input the dates you taught the Erin’s law curriculum. That in and of itself is a celebration as the last two years have proved challenging for our parents trying to help our school. We had several parents and teachers attend in the library Thursday. The theme was really about fundraising for our school and how to start planning and implementing some fun community building events again. More info to come.

Katherine Switzer– Monday, April 18, was Patriots’ Day. While we here on the west coast don’t think much of it, it is a big deal in the town of Boston. The biggest part of the celebration in Boston is, perhaps, the most famous road running race in the world, the Boston Marathon. Every Patriots’ Day, thousands of people run the 26.2 mile course through the streets of Boston. Pre pandemic, in 2019, over 30,000 people started the race; 16,550 men and 13,684 women. 55 years ago, in 1967, the numbers looked very different. This week of Patriots’ Day is a great time to take a look back at Katherine Switzer’s story and a milestone in women’s sports. The article is long, but worth a read. If you don’t have time to read the article, the video is a great synopsis.

PS- This year’s winner of the women’s division was Peres Jepchirchir from Kenya. She finished the 26.2 miles in 2:21:01. That’s 5:23 per mile…or another way to look at it: go to Mt. View. Get on the track and run one lap in just under 81 seconds. Not easy. But don’t stop until you’ve run another 104 laps at the same pace.

Jon’s Absence- If you didn’t know, Jon’s father-in-law passed away Wednesday. Thanks for reaching out and providing support during a challenging time.

Upcoming Events

April 27- Secretary’s Day

April 27- SIW- STEM

April 28- Kindergarten Kick Off

May 4- SIW- Teacher Prep

May 5- 1st Grade EBISS

May 9-20- State Testing- grades 3, 4 and 5

May 11- Fire Drill- 9:40 AM

Congratulations- Congratulations to Megan Williams for completing her teaching degree through George Fox University!
