Oct 21 – 25

Pay $1.00 and wear a hat on Friday to support leadership led activities!!

In language arts this week we are going to continue to focus on learning which words to capitalize when we are writing. We will also be continuing morph spelling. On Friday we had a spelling contest and everyone did amazing! It was very evident how hard they’ve been working to learn the morphs! It was also a fantastic Friday in language arts because 99% of students turned in their homework! It made me very excited!

In social studies we will be wrapping up our study of early humans by writing and reading about the start of the first civilizations. Students will also be working on a writing assignment explaining whether they would rather be an early hunter/gatherer or an early farmer. They had to examine the advantages and disadvantages of each and argue their choice. I can’t wait to read what they wrote!

Oct 14 – 18

It was so lovely to meet families at conferences last week! If you didn’t make it to conferences, please know my email is always on and my door is always open! Don’t hesitate to call or email with any questions!

In language arts this week we are continuing our routine of morph spelling, reading our Spinelli novels, as well as starting to look at some capitalization rules. We’ll be reviewing nouns and verbs so we don’t forget those as well! Students took their FIRST morph spelling test after lesson 10 today. I am happy to say that they did WONDERFUL! Their hard work really showed.

In social studies we’re continuing our study of prehistory by looking at the progression of humans from hunting and gathering tribes to farming communities and early civilizations.

I have been so impressed with my math lab class! They are are working SO hard to master equivalent fractions. We’ll continue to practice and practice and practice this week until we can do fractions with our eyes closed!

Coming Up: Hat Day for $1.00 NEXT week to support leadership!

In language arts this week we’re continuing morph spelling and continuing to read our Jerry Spinelli novels. We’re also working on identifying and using nouns and verbs properly. Homework this week will continue to have students practicing identifying nouns and verbs correctly.

In social studies we investigated cave painting as a form of communication last week, and will continue to study the lives of early humans from the stone age. We’ll be wrapping that up and moving onto Mesopotamia soon!

Don’t forget that Parent Vue (your way to check your child’s grades) is now up and running!
