This act brings the Native Oregonian history and experience, through the lens of the nine federally recognized tribes, into the forefront of Oregon Schools.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Education has created a website that has lesson plans across several disciplines including Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and Health in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/students-and-family\/equity\/NativeAmericanEducation\/Pages\/8th-Grade-Tribal-History-Lesson-Plans.aspx\">8th grade<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/students-and-family\/equity\/NativeAmericanEducation\/Pages\/10th-Grade-Tribal-History-Lesson-Plans.aspx\">10th grade<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ODE has also created a series of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/students-and-family\/equity\/NativeAmericanEducation\/Documents\/Essential%20Understandings%20of%20Native%20Americans%20in%20Oregon%20June%202020.pdf?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery\"> Essential Understandings of Native Americans In Oregon<\/a>&nbsp; for Teachers to understand the experiences of Native People.&nbsp; Much of this history was not taught in our schools prior to SB13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following are several resources that can be used to learn and teach more about those who have lived here since time immemorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abby Hall, former student teacher at Bend High, created these videos about the Klamath Tribes, of which she is a member<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/aPn3DG7A22k\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/aPn3DG7A22k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Truth, Reconning, and Healing, the Klamath Tribes<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> This is an 8-minute video on the boarding school experience.&nbsp; There will also be corresponding curriculum written for 11<sup>th<\/sup> grade students that can be found at the Klamath Tribes website as well as Oregon Department of Education website.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/A8Ey27Ih86E\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/A8Ey27Ih86E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">We\u2019re Still Here, The Termination and Restoration of the Klamath Tribes&nbsp;<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a 5-minute video on the Termination and Restoration of the Klamath Tribes.&nbsp; There will also be corresponding curriculum written for 6<sup>th<\/sup> grade students that can be found at the Klamath Tribes website as well as Oregon Department of Education website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YxAYk2hYKXI\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YxAYk2hYKXI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Heal the Land, Heal the People&nbsp;<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a 5-minute video on the importance and cultural connections to the land.&nbsp; It is an almost an hour long and rated G. Here is the summary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hundreds of books exist about the Lewis and Clark expedition and the decades of pioneers who followed them West.&nbsp; But even today, most Oregonians don&#8217;t know much about the people who had settled here centuries before &#8220;the settlers&#8221; came.&nbsp; &#8220;Broken Treaties&#8221; introduces viewers to the tribes of our state and explores a thread of the Oregon story that hasn&#8217;t been told very well over the years.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"277\" height=\"182\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/dean.richards\/files\/2022\/02\/download.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-559\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teaching about Tribal History is not just a Social Studies thing!
