Create the following notecards in Noodletools (use the McCarthyism article):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Summary<\/li>\n<li>Paraphrase<\/li>\n<li>Quotation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>DAY 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Witch Hunt Assignment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mindset:\u00a0<\/strong> Although you are not writing a paper, you need to conduct and document your research as if you were.\u00a0 All of your work will be graded with a final paper in mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background:<\/strong> Witch hunts follow a similar pattern which begins with fear.\u00a0 A large number of people begin to fear something.\u00a0 Then an event happens that becomes the trigger for action.\u00a0 Finally, a person or group of people become the target of the action, or the scapegoats.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>FEAR<\/li>\n<li>TRIGGER<\/li>\n<li>SCAPEGOAT(s)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Task:<\/strong> Select a metaphorical witch hunt and research it.\u00a0 Some suggestions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Red Scare (Joseph McCarthy)<\/li>\n<li>Post 9\/11 Muslim and Middle Eastern people<\/li>\n<li>Salem Witch Trials<\/li>\n<li>Japanese American Internment WWII<\/li>\n<li>AIDS epidemic outbreak 1980s<\/li>\n<li>Pedophile priests in the Catholic church<\/li>\n<li>WWII Nazi desire to eradicate any non-Aryan people<\/li>\n<li>Daycare sex-abuse in the 1980s and &#8217;90s<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Do the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Write a research question for the topic you have selected.\u00a0 EXAMPLE:\u00a0 To what extent was ______ a \u201cwitch hunt\u201d?\u00a0 Enter the question into the &#8220;Research Question&#8221; field on your project dashboard in Noodletools.\u00a0 Consider the three elements of a witch hunt listed above when crafting your question.<\/li>\n<li>Find 2 sources that provide information about your topic (evaluate them to make sure they are reliable, academically sound sources)<\/li>\n<li>Carefully read and take notes on each source (consider loading then into Subtext so you can highlight and take notes).\u00a0 Consider how each source answers your research question.\u00a0 A useful article will provide you with possible answers to your research question.<\/li>\n<li>Create a citation for each source in Noodletools<\/li>\n<li>Create 2 notecards for each source:\u00a0 Summary and Paraphrase<\/li>\n<li>Title each notecard &#8220;Summary&#8221; or &#8220;Parphrase&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>On each notecard, copy and paste the passage you are summarizing or paraphrasing into the direct quotation field.<\/li>\n<li>On each notecard, reflect on the information it contains and write your ideas in the &#8220;My Ideas&#8221; section.<\/li>\n<li>Write a thesis statement and enter it in the &#8220;Thesis Statement&#8221; field on your project dashboard in Noodletools.\u00a0 Your thesis statement should answer your research question.\u00a0 If you were to write a paper, your thesis statement would be the purpose of your paper.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>GRADING: <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/eila.overcash\/files\/2013\/12\/Bedsworth-Witch-Hunt-Scoring-Guide.pdf\">Bedsworth Witch Hunt Scoring Guide<\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>DAYS 4 and 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Research time&#8211;All pieces of the assignment are due at the end of the period on <strong>Day 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAY 1: 1.\u00a0 Update or create your Noodletools account (www.noodletools.com) 2.\u00a0 Download the Subtext app on your iPad\u00a0 (there is no web equivelent) 3.
