To show that you understand the important ideas in a text of any length or variety.\u00a0 To make the author\u2019s purpose and methods clear to someone who has not read the piece.<\/p>\n<h2>The next step is an <span style=\"color: #008000\">annotation<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Definition:\u00a0<\/strong> n. a critical or explanatory note or body of notes added to a text.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose:<\/strong>\u00a0 Same as a summary and also, in the case of research, to show that the work is a legitimate source to use for research (or not)(use the A-TACO tool) and to show how the source contributes (or not) to the research you are conducting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rules:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Write in the present tense.<\/li>\n<li>Include the author and title in the first sentence<\/li>\n<li>Be concise&#8211;summary should be shorter than the original<\/li>\n<li>Include info in the order it appears in the original<\/li>\n<li>Use your own words<\/li>\n<li>Use \u201c\u201d around any of the author\u2019s original words<\/li>\n<li>Leave out your opinions, ideas, interpretations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All you have to do is fill in the template provided and you will write perfect annotations every time: <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/eila.overcash\/files\/2014\/01\/Annotationtemplatesgeneric.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Annotationtemplatesgeneric<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbookonline.com\/advanced\/article?id=ar755270&amp;st=animal+farm\" target=\"_blank\">Read this brief article<\/a> about <em>Animal Farm<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve already written a summary Definition: n. a comprehensive and usually brief abstract, recapitulation, or compendium of previously stated facts or statements.\u00a0 (Remember the cannibals?)
