{"id":582,"date":"2021-09-15T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-15T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/elementary-curriculum-instruction\/?p=582"},"modified":"2021-10-06T15:14:39","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T15:14:39","slug":"september-15th-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/elementary-curriculum-instruction\/2021\/09\/15\/september-15th-update\/","title":{"rendered":"September 15th Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Literacy Happenings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DIBELS testing starts on Wednesday, September 15th!!&nbsp; We will have a team traveling from school to school administering the assessment this year.&nbsp; YEAH!! &nbsp; <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1u7uNAPEP4DTkyRW2ZccXTeX2_9r15OQr\/edit?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=101795580140760974491&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\" target=\"_blank\">DIBELS schedule here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schools will be able to enter data on the Acadience website starting on Wednesday.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the Innovative Conference in August our keynote speaker, Mary Ehrenworth from Columbia University, Teachers College Reading and Writing Project advised us to avoid giving running records this fall to assess student reading levels.&nbsp; She emphasized the need to spend as little as time as possible assessing and getting right to instruction.&nbsp; She advised giving a <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1OgNQ6cJmE_yJ_YKLav68gmSWkrYiuGkm?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">phonics screener<\/a> and\/or a <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1e1R2ZMqUeU1j_zz4Z6Zbv8YaBT_3CfsA?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diagnostic spelling assessment<\/a> instead.&nbsp; In addition, she said it is critical to address missing foundational skills while still engaging students in complex, grade-level text.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We had some really great integrated projects last year that might be fun to bring back and use with your students.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.seesaw.me\/pages\/shared_activity?share_token=Lde-zuxmTiuchSoHs_1WuA&amp;prompt_id=prompt.062efc50-2a92-4ef7-9089-2da0578c7a74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">K:&nbsp; What is in a name?&nbsp;<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/app.seesaw.me\/pages\/shared_activity?share_token=QBHfmi1JT96bwT2t5DPSTQ&amp;prompt_id=prompt.afabbd14-87d4-4ed5-9cb5-573dc01a1404\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1st-2nd -Community Helpers<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1n3yRl4ivKi9bkrZO0G7gyCLWazMa0uRx0CTKcvBN1EA\/copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(3rd) Hopes and Dreams Hyperdoc<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1HZ1IYT3fjw-m7tmsQFTf3OZc2YSmKLvR24sR2bSzI4E\/copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(4th) Hopes and Dreams Hyperdoc<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Y2d8wHbaoO4NcHhc92Is6ELw1CvWnoCqOsGOR8WRUUU\/copy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">(5th) Hopes and Dreams Hyperdoc<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mathematics Happenings<\/strong>!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DreamBox<\/strong> &#8211; ATTENTION ALL THIRD GRADE TEACHERS! &#8211; You must move all students into the 3-5 environment. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.dreambox.com\/s\/article\/Moving-from-the-K-2-Learning-Environment-to-the-3-5-Learning-Environment\">Here are the directions.<\/a> This will not change their content, but will make the learning environment more 3-5 friendly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember do not change a student&#8217;s &#8220;grade level&#8221; in DreamBox.  It does not change their content, it only messes with Predictive Insight Data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Unit Screeners<\/strong> &#8211; Once you administer the unit screener, don&#8217;t forget about the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1BrWVBMQ5KG5x5IqDyGyFR-oMB0gVzFHi?usp=sharing\">Unit Screener Implementation Guide<\/a>!  It has wonderful suggestions for just-in-time instruction for students with unfinished learning.
