{"id":7100,"date":"2023-09-27T21:06:50","date_gmt":"2023-09-27T21:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/elementary-curriculum-instruction\/?p=7100"},"modified":"2023-09-27T21:09:22","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T21:09:22","slug":"september-27th-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/elementary-curriculum-instruction\/2023\/09\/27\/september-27th-update\/","title":{"rendered":"September 27th Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\">Important Information<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Curriculum<\/strong><br>We want to make sure you have the curriculum materials you need to get started.\u00a0 At this point we have ordered all curriculum and need to know if you are missing items.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1tu22z7tgo2R-uqKtM5z_-ffYUC2OQB21oHgUYr0naf0\/edit?usp=sharing\">Please share here\u00a0if you are missing items.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Educator Network Day <\/strong><br>When: October 11th from 1:45-3:15<br>Where: School Sites<br>Topic: Reflecting and Refining Foundational Skills and Continuing to Refine and Plan for Life and Career Readiness using Wayfinder as our Tool<br>Facilitators:&nbsp;ICCL Teams<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Admin\/ICCL Teams will meet on October 3rd from 3:00-5:00 at Jewell Elementary<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center has-pale-ocean-gradient-background has-background\">Other Information<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Literacy Happenings<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Exciting News from the Language Arts Curriculum Review Team<\/strong><br>The Language Arts Curriculum Team met September 14th and reached strong consensus on moving forward with EL Education from Imagine Learning as our finalist for K-5 Language Arts Curriculum.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why EL Education?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Deep knowledge-building scope and sequence<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eight week modular structure allows for students to go deep with each topic<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All writing and conversations are purposeful, focused, and anchored in the content students are learning&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students own their own learning and develop the habits of successful citizens&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Language Arts Curriculum Review Team will move forward with field testing a module for the purpose of identifying professional learning needs and beginning to plan for implementation.&nbsp; During the field test the team will be collecting video, survey and interview data from classroom educators and students.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Background Information:&nbsp; In the Spring the team was field testing two curriculums:&nbsp; EL Education and Collaborative Classroom.&nbsp; The team reached strong consensus regarding the strength of EL Education as a knowledge building language arts curriculum and decided to not move forward with Collaborative Classroom.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next steps:<br>10\/2-12\/11 Curriculum Review Team Field Test of EL<br>10\/25-10\/27-Each school will have an information table with resources to explore the curricular materials and provide feedback during conferences (community and staff feedback)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Math Happenings<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Extended Date- Dreambox Launchpad for Kindergarten&nbsp;<\/strong><br>The date to have Dreambox Launchpad assessments complete has been extended due to iPad roll out.&nbsp; The new date for Kindergarten is 11\/3.&nbsp;&nbsp;Grades 1-5-should complete Launchpad assessment by 9\/29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forefront has&nbsp;a help document that shows how teachers can use the new reporting suite to help inform instruction once they&#8217;ve got data from an assessment <a href=\"https:\/\/forefront.education\/support\/how-do-i-use-an-assessment-to-guide-instruction\/\">(linked here)<\/a> and a short Getting Started for Teachers webinar that highlights features that might be newer to them <a href=\"https:\/\/forefront.education\/project-view\/getting-started-for-teachers\/\">(linked here)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Forefront Rosters &#8211; Please check your Forefront roster and make sure it looks correct. Alert your instructional coach, mentor, or Kerry Morton if there are still errors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Life and Career Readiness<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Greeting:&nbsp;<\/strong><br>In this basic greeting, two students face each other, give a smile, and say \u201cGood Morning, (classmate\u2019s name).\u201d As time progresses, have students pass a high five, or a high five and ankle shake, you could have a quick class handshake to pass around the circle.<br><strong>Share Out:<\/strong> What is something you like to do in your free time?<br><strong>Group Activity &#8211; <\/strong>Wayfinder:<br>Directions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Invite students to sit in a circle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask students to stay sitting down if they like cats and stand up if they prefer dogs. If they can\u2019t decide that\u2019s okay! Let them know they can squat halfway.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Say, \u201cSit for ice cream; stand for pizza.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Continue with the following options or make up your own:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rice, pasta<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chicken, french fries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soccer, baseball<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dancing, singing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swimming, sledding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talking Points:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There were no wrong answers in that game, only preferences.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you like something that\u2019s great. If you don\u2019t like something that\u2019s great too.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We are going to learn so much about each other this year.
