The (by design) slow on-ramp to skills of our new curriculum, along with the hands-on learning, visuals, playful games, and digital options, has given my students a steady, confidence-building entry point instead of making them feel behind from the start. The built-in sub-unit quizzes allow me to pause, offer quick re-teaching, and support students right away &#8211; before they are super far behind their peers. They honed in on expert lesson pacing to ensure every student is heard. The goal: facilitate equitable and powerful discussions during the \u201cActivity Connect\u201d and \u201cLesson Synthesis\u201d \u2014making math accessible and exciting for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Second Grade Literacy Promise<\/strong><br>Last year, we began a cohort of K-2 teachers who were interested in working together to grow and refine our early literacy instruction.\u00a0 This group is laser-focused on foundational skills and teaching core like pros! They have been working together to figure out what ALL of our students need and how to provide instruction that meets every kid where they are.\u00a0 This team has a vision and a promise for the future of our K-2 students, and that is: Every student reading at or above grade level by the end of 2nd grade.\u00a0 We now have two cohorts of teachers with about 60 teachers from 14 schools participating!!\u00a0 AMAZING!\u00a0 We can do big things when we work together.\u00a0<br>We are looking for stories to share with all of our educators.\u00a0 Share a funny story, a big moment when a student learned something new and realized it, or a picture from your classroom.\u00a0 Send to Julie Richards (<a href=\"mailto:julie.richards@bend.k12.or.us\">julie.richards@bend.k12.or.us<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Upcoming Elementary Progress Report Updates<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mathematics: Minor wording revisions in k-2 have been made to the mathematics section for greater clarity.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Characteristics of a Learner: This section will now be aligned to your grade-level priority standards and will use the standard 1\u20134 scoring scale found throughout the progress report. This common practice can, however, slightly alter the scale of printed items, resulting in <strong>inaccurate lengths<\/strong> necessary for measurement activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Print Shop Recommendation (Preventative Action):<\/strong> When submitting your order for measurement resources, you must include the specific instruction <strong>&#8220;print actual size&#8221;<\/strong> in the comments section of the order form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Site Printing Check:<\/strong> If you are printing materials at your own site and notice inaccuracies, check your print dialogue box to confirm the setting is <strong>&#8220;actual size&#8221;<\/strong> or <strong>&#8220;full size,&#8221;<\/strong> <em>not<\/em> &#8220;fit to printable area&#8221; or &#8220;scale to fit.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Oregon&#8217;s State Standard vs. Amplify Desmos Math<\/strong> <br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oregon.gov\/ode\/educator-resources\/standards\/mathematics\/Documents\/K12FullVersionwithGuidance.pdf\">Oregon&#8217;s Mathematics Standards<\/a> use the phrase &#8220;an algorithm,&#8221; promoting flexibility and allowing students to use any efficient strategy to solve problems. In contrast, Amplify Desmos Math teaches and assesses &#8220;the standard algorithm.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To align with Oregon&#8217;s flexible approach, please allow students to use various efficient strategies when solving.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While auto-scored digital assessments cannot be changed, you can adjust scores for alternative strategies once entered into Forefront.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\ude80 <strong>Forefront End-of-Unit Assessment Data Update<\/strong><br>The initial upload of End-of-Unit Assessment data from Amplify has been imported into Forefront.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Data Cut-off Date:<\/strong> November 20th.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Discrepancies:<\/strong> Please notify <strong>Kerry Morton<\/strong> if you notice any data discrepancies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upload Schedule:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Now until January 12th:<\/strong> Weekly uploads excluding winter break.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>January 13th to January 30th:<\/strong> Nightly uploads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Action Required:<\/strong> You must continue to <strong>manually input pre-unit checks and sub-unit quizzes<\/strong> into Forefront.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Well-Being<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EL\/Wayfinder Connection Lesson Document<\/strong><br>Teachers, the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1OoBtLQqi2jd9od-c89Ay-1eSWgaPRFOKJUj_p1PdJmk\/edit?usp=sharing\">EL\/Wayfinder Connection Lesson Document <\/a>is now available.<strong><br><\/strong>This document provides streamlined access to the Wayfinder lessons aligned with each unit\/chapter, as well as the accompanying family letters for home communication.
