Please be sure your office managers know this. Some of you already collected $ for this and have it sitting in the ‘bank.’ You have a couple options for this money. You can return it to the families. You could also use it for another field trip for THAT GRADE. If you choose the second option, please be sure to notify parents and give them an option. They may be happy to contribute to outdoor school, but not want to contribute to the other field trip. Keeping the money and using it for another grade or next year is not an option.

I will soon be sending out a form that each school will need to complete before we can submit for reimbursement. I am currently attempting to make it as easy as possible so that you can do some cut and pasting for things that are the same across schools. Be on the lookout for that form in the coming weeks.

Bullying- First, I apologize for once again bringing up the word as I know you are getting weary of it by now. I would like to recommend that if you haven’t already, now would be a good time for some preemptive communication with families. It might be a good idea to share some of the following (not required- you know your school culture and parents- just an idea).

All of the things your school already does to prevent bullying (PBIS, training students to tell an adult, SEL instruction, character education, etc.).

How your school handles reports of bullying.

The definition of bullying and how that is different from some things that might be confused with bullying.

A little bit of proactive communication can go a long ways towards preventing incidents from spinning. Thank you for all of the endless work you do every day to prevent and address bullying in our elementary schools.

Conferences- The state of Oregon has issued a “temporary administrative order” with an immediate effective date that in essence states that substitute teachers should be treated as a regular teacher in terms of “breaks” and meal periods. In other words, you can immediately return to treating subs as you have prior to this year. One other item of clarity in this “order” is that you cannot require subs to work during their prep period. If they volunteer then absolutely provide them with a task – but you cannot require them to take on extra tasks during prep time. The ESD will be communicating with all of the substitutes soon, but I do not see any reason why you cannot change your substitute (break/lunch/start & end times) practices now.

Parents/Teachers/Students Against Gun Violence- You may have already been contacted, or may in the near future be contacted, by someone with the following group claiming to be your school rep. If you are, know that they are not representing our district. Their intentions are good, but do not come with authority that you implement any of the changes they may suggest. If you are contacted, a tactic to consider is to have them join you at a Site Council or PTA/PTO meeting if/when you discuss school safety regarding your building. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this.

Leadership Meeting- Monday, 3:15 at Ed. Center. Please bring your ACR’s (these were due yesterday). I’d like a couple minutes of your time after the leadership meeting to discuss this. We can stay and sign or we can do like we did last year and not have a big signing meeting. Either way, we are hoping that we can get them signed, released in synergy and added in synergy by next Friday so that those numbers can be used for a more accurate count for projections and staffing.

Transfer Interviews- We have set a date of Thursday, March 22. Jon will be sending a letter on Monday to staff informing them of this process. We are hoping to get it completed before spring break as we know things get crazy after and one less thing on the plate can only help. Site TBD.

Hiring Update- We will be posting the Buckingham principal position next week (hopefully by Wednesday, March 7). We are hoping to post the Juniper VP position on March 23.

That’s all for now. Have a great weekend.

Outdoor School- I wanted to remind you that outdoor school is covered for this year.
