This legislation, enacted in many states across the country, is known as “Erin’s Law,” and it focuses on child sex abuse prevention.

The law has fairly stringent requirements beyond what previously existed in our health education standards, including annual instruction for all grade levels. A team of district staff looked at the requirements this summer and made plans for the best way to address them at each level.

Tim Burdsall has taken the lead at the elementary level, and he will provide a Safe Touch Training on Wednesday, October 19th, from 8:00-noon at Silver Rail Elementary. This training will include all the necessary materials, including parent notification letters, etc., as well as a checklist for planning.

Because of the legislation, it is mandatory for each elementary school to send ONE representative to this training. Ideally, this will be the person primarily responsible for the instruction or a person who is comfortable training others from his/her site on the topic. If you need a substitute for this individual, the district will cover the cost. Please have your representative sign up on PD Place, so there is documentation of attendance.

Math SIW-

Bridges Educator Site licenses – We exceeded the limit of licenses for the Bridges Educator Site. If the staff person (teacher) does not have a type 10 license to transport students, the staff person and the student must ride in a vehicle together along with the driver (parent volunteer). If there is not enough room to accommodate all of the students and the medication administration trained staff person, a bus transport will need to be requested.

*Epi pen and Glucagon trained staff need to be CPR/first aid certified.

**Please remind your staff that if direct care nursing services are required for field trips, we ask that a 2 week advance notice via direct care nursing request form is completed.

Emergency Protocol Training- Friendly reminder that annual Emergency Protocol Training (EPT) needs to be completed prior to December 31st, 2016.
