{"id":874,"date":"2019-01-11T23:04:47","date_gmt":"2019-01-11T23:04:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/gary.timms\/?p=874"},"modified":"2019-01-11T23:04:47","modified_gmt":"2019-01-11T23:04:47","slug":"january-11-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/gary.timms\/2019\/01\/11\/january-11-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"January 11, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Fire Safety<\/span>&#8211;<\/strong>On Friday, January 4<sup>th<\/sup>, the district sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1-CachGVnLOacn1gi8_eHclpGTCguZJmb\/view?usp=sharing\">fire &amp; life safety message <\/a>in the\u00a0<em>Staff Spotlight<\/em>\u00a0to all staff, reminding them of several important practices. We want to emphasize two of these to all administrators:<strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Staff should check for any blocked or impaired fire\/life safety devices in their classrooms or workplaces. If they have any potential issues, these are to be reported to administrators and\/or staff custodians. These issues should be addressed as quickly as possible.<\/li>\n<li>It is a violation of the law to alter, remove, or tamper with any fire safety components.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Shadowing-<\/span><\/strong> The timeline for student shadowing has been extended to February 1. I had the opportunity to shadow a student for the morning earlier this week. It was a valuable and enjoyable experience. Thanks to Wendy for letting me invade Westside. I encourage you to participate if you can find the time. You can record your experiences <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScEhIKFU3GOpnxZzMgvY_ModA8Azf9vFkIlKvziHmyNhOxNXw\/viewform\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>New DHS Hotline-<\/strong><\/span> I am sure many of you are aware of this, but if not, here is some more information on the new DHS statewide hotline.\u00a0 DHS is in the process of implementing a statewide Child Abuse Hotline, which will be completed in April 2019, but\u00a0it has already been started in Deschutes, Jefferson and Crook Counties beginning on November 1, 2018. The reporting number has changed. It is now <strong>541-693-2854 <\/strong>statewide.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They are working to correct some telephone line problems<\/li>\n<li>There will be the ability for the caller to leave their return phone number in case they can\u2019t wait for someone to answer<\/li>\n<li>They are in the process of hiring 75% additional staff to handle these calls!<\/li>\n<li>They have implemented an email address for people to send concerns\/feedback to:\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"mailto:feedback.oregonchildabusehotline@DHSOHA.state.or.us\">feedback.oregonchildabusehotline@DHSOHA.state.or.us<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Mini Observations-<\/span><\/strong> Stephanie Bent is kind enough to send a report to me each month that tells how many mini observations are recorded in Talent Ed for each school. Please be sure that you are completing mini observations AND recording them into Talent Ed. Thanks for your work on this. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Horizontal<\/strong> <strong>Meeting-<\/strong><\/span> Our meeting will be Monday at 4:00 at Pine Ridge. Time permitting, we will discuss the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I will be sharing the plan for staffing the new school.<\/li>\n<li>Please be prepared to discuss in smaller groups what you do at the start of kindergarten year (slow start, kinder camp, etc.).What&#8217;s working? What challenges? What would you like to do differently? What help would you like?<\/li>\n<li>Please also bring a copy of your school supply lists (if you have one). We will be revisiting supply lists, options and what supports might be needed to go in a different direction.<\/li>\n<li>We will also have a couple guest speakers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Upcoming Events<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Horizontal Meeting- January 14- 4:00 P.M.- Pine Ridge<\/li>\n<li>MLK Day- No School- January 21<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That&#8217;s it for this week.
