{"id":988,"date":"2019-04-19T22:11:19","date_gmt":"2019-04-19T22:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/gary.timms\/?p=988"},"modified":"2019-04-19T22:11:19","modified_gmt":"2019-04-19T22:11:19","slug":"april-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/gary.timms\/2019\/04\/19\/april-19\/","title":{"rendered":"April 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Staffing\/ Hiring-<\/strong><\/span> Please complete your staffing plan as soon as possible if you haven\u2019t already.\u00a0 I will be reviewing to determine if you really have what you put in your plan <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"emoji\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/11.2.0\/svg\/1f609.svg\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude09\" \/> and hopefully next week I will be giving the green light to hire classroom teachers from our generic postings or to post special positions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>From<\/strong><strong> Lora-<\/strong><\/span> When the district made the decision to switch start times, by far the biggest concern we heard from elementary parents was the lack of availability of after-school care. Since the winter, Kids Inc has been piloting expanded programming in two of our schools (thank you, Kelle and Steve!), and it has gone well.<\/p>\n<p>The expanded Kids Inc programming has two goals: 1) to accommodate more students, helping to decrease or eliminate waiting lists: and 2) to provide both \u201cactive\u201d and \u201cquieter\u201d spaces for students because many of them will be spending longer periods of time in after-school care.<\/p>\n<p>For this programming to be successful, the district is <strong>requiring <\/strong>each school with a Kids Inc program to provide two spaces: 1) gym space and 2) a classroom OR commons area near the gym (not a portable classroom). Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>From Alandra-<\/strong><\/span> First off, thanks to everyone who submitted a student suggestion for our annual family handbook and calendar, which is sent home to every family in the district. We have some stellar nominees! That said, we could still use your help: We have an over-representation of female students and could use some <strong>additional male student nominees<\/strong>. Please have any purchases\/spending submitted by May 17.
