To do this poem, I first start with students writing a floor plan of their house. They label on it memories they have. The next day I share I am from poems previous students have done and I share mine.
My students are just starting to learn about Oregon and its regions. To get them fired up about Oregon and all the things that are special about it, I created a Kidspiration they needed to fill out.
My students learned how to use the application Garageband for peer editing. They were all in the middle of working on stories and were at a perfect point to get some feedback on their writing.
