The code simply sent them to a Revolutionary War web page. In previous years, I used URL shorteners, links from the classroom web site and, of course, writing the loooong URL on the board and having students type it in (ahhh, the Stone Ages!)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Not only did QR codes make it quicker and easier for teacher to get students to web sites and files, it actually bumped up the engagement factor. Students were getting up and walking around the room, scanning posters in the hallways and interacting with then content a little bit more. At first, these simple engagement tricks kept students interested in the content that the QR codes led them to more than previous methods. This was great! But, alas, all things new can eventually become old and interest can fade. Scanning QR codes just isn\u2019t what it used to be! So, here are a few options to give your QR codes a make over and pique student interest yet again. (Please note, that there are more places to go to get the results I talk about below, these are just what I\u2019ve worked with the most)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><b>Add an image to your QR code:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">QR Code Monkey: (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qrcode-monkey.com\/#url\"><span class=\"s2\">https:\/\/www.qrcode-monkey.com\/#url<\/span><\/a>)<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3438\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/instructionaltechnology\/files\/2017\/02\/qrcode-7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"248\" height=\"248\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Enter the URL<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Check <b>Include Logo\/Image in QR Code<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Select <b>Own Logo-Image<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Choose <b>Upload Image<\/b> and load the image from your computer<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">A preview will show to the right. To download, choose <b>Download PNG<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here\u2019s an example for Discovery Education:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You can also change the color of the QR code. Just remember that darker is better and if you are projecting or laminating the poster glare will affect the ability for iPads to scan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><b>Create a fill-in-the-blank QR Code:<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mal-den-code.de\/\">http:\/\/mal-den-code.de\/<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Yes, the site is in German! Just use the translator in your browser to get English.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In my search for Breakout EDU clues, I stumbled across this little gem! It allows you to generate a QR code where the middle is not filled in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here\u2019s how:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Click on the orange <b>Create QR Code<\/b> button (the middle one)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Enter the URL in the <b>Destination Internet address:<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Click <b>Code to paint<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Select the difficulty level (There are options to use numbers or letters, each with three \u2018difficulty\u2019 levels)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">To print the QR code to give students select <b>Coloring Page<\/b>. Select <b>Solution Sheet<\/b> to see the solution for what to color in. On the solution sheet, you\u2019ll see what numbers or letters need to be filled in.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3437\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/instructionaltechnology\/files\/2017\/02\/Screen-Shot-2017-02-02-at-12.49.17-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"363\" height=\"231\" \/><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pay close attention to the instructions below the download links. Coloring in using black works best, but it must be dark. Also, be sure to keep a white border around the QR code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Now, it\u2019s up to you to give students clues as to what numbers or letters need to be colored in to complete the QR code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\n<p class=\"p1\">So, there you have it! Two options to give your QR codes a facelift!
