{"id":3710,"date":"2017-09-21T09:14:20","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T17:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/instructionaltechnology\/?p=3710"},"modified":"2017-09-21T09:14:20","modified_gmt":"2017-09-21T17:14:20","slug":"apple-classroom-application-set-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/instructionaltechnology\/2017\/09\/21\/apple-classroom-application-set-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Apple Classroom Application Set Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple Classroom (or just Classroom) is a device management app that allows teachers to interact and observe student progress while they work on iPads in your classroom.\u00a0 In order to get the most out of this powerful application, teachers should understand a bit of how it works and how to properly set up their classroom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How it works:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The classroom app will connect with students over wifi and\u00a0 Bluetooth.\u00a0 \u00a0This will create a strong connection between the teacher iPad and the student iPad.\u00a0 Because of this, we suggest you use the Classroom app to display student work to your classroom projection station.\u00a0 We have found this method to be more reliable than our previously supported method, Airserver.<\/li>\n<li>Students must have their Bluetooth settings switched to ON in order for the Classroom app to function.<\/li>\n<li>The application should only be loaded on the TEACHER iPad<\/li>\n<li>Classroom does not work from a Computer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Apple Classroom Settings:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apple classroom is set up differently\u00a0for elementary teachers and secondary teachers.\u00a0 Elementary classrooms are in the &#8220;ad-hoc&#8221; method.\u00a0 Therefore, teachers must manually name and add students to their classroom. This allows teachers to make separate classrooms for their math, reading, pe, and music classes.\u00a0 New students to the class will need to be manually added to the Classroom app.\u00a0 \u00a0 Secondary teachers are set up &#8220;automatically&#8221;.\u00a0 When they open Classroom for the first time, they will see their class list as it is shown in Synergy.\u00a0New students and changes will occur automatically.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to set up your classroom:\u00a0 (Elementary Teachers, and Westside)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teacher instructions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Download the Classroom App from self-service on your Teacher iPad.<\/li>\n<li>Put your name in the Teacher information pop up menu.<\/li>\n<li>Click &#8220;create a class&#8221; and give it the name you wish your students to see. (example;\u00a0 Mr. McDonald&#8217;s Reading Group)<\/li>\n<li>When the students are present, open the app, navigate to your new classroom and choose ADD from the top right.<\/li>\n<li>Write down 4 digit add code on your board.\u00a0 (this code changes every time you hit the add button)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Student instructions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Make sure Bluetooth settings are on and that you are on BLS wifi.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the settings menu.\u00a0 When the teacher opens the classroom app.\u00a0 A classroom icon will appear under the VPN settings button.<\/li>\n<li>Choose classroom.
