I taught first grade and kindergarten long before all of these digital tools were even thought about, which I highly enjoy by the way! But who would have thought we’d be in this position teaching remotely to our students? While it is overwhelming, I’m also excited about the possibilities.

To begin with, I would want to connect with my students and their families. I’d probably send them an email with a link of a video of me talking to them – telling them I miss them and am looking forward to finding ways to connect with them. I think it would be fun to include some kind of scavenger hunt that would require them to find things around their house or outside. In this email, I would let them know of my plans to use SeeSaw to continue to connect with them. I’ve got my elementary hat on right now – sorry secondary people!

Remember the days of Show and Tell? Wouldn’t it be fun to use Flipgrid for Show and Tell? Students could show off their pets, their special collections, a favorite toy, etc. I could use this time to talk about digital citizenship (did you catch how I threw that in there?) and how we can positively comment on each other’s videos.

Later we could use Flipgrid to explain how to solve a problem or read a paragraph from our favorite book. Oh man, don’t get me started! I would share links to the San Diego Zoo showing the live feeds. I would see about getting guest speakers to create short videos to share.

My ideas are starting to overflow, so I’m going to restrain myself and stop. I can’t wait to hear what you teachers are doing! Remember to keep it simple, breathe and be your wonderful self!

~Christie

Dear Teachers, First of all, I have to say that I feel inadequate even trying to walk in your shoes.
