This year, our two day Disorientation takes place on Thursday and Friday Sept 8th and 9th&#8230;. the 1st two official full days of school!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery Crews and grade based groups. You may email your permission form directly to our Curriculum Secretary at jill.deckmancooper@bend.k12.or.us OR print it and turn it in to our office <em>before<\/em> the 1st day of school.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"week-at-a-glance\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">PARKING LOT GUIDELINES &#8211; GO SLOW!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year we will have many more students and staff arriving and departing from school each day, so it is even more important that we all agree on how to navigate the parking lot!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"687\" height=\"714\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-26-at-3.18.12-PM-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-26-at-3.18.12-PM-1.png 687w, https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/08\/Screen-Shot-2022-08-26-at-3.18.12-PM-1-289x300.png 289w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 687px) 100vw, 687px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The west, smaller parking lot (Humm side) is reserved for school staff and shared with Humm employees. Please do not use that parking lot for waiting, drop-off, pick-up, or turnaround.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Buses will be looping around the back of the school in the morning and afternoon. This will free up the loop in our main parking lot for pick-up\/drop-off. It also means that we will need to leave space for them to pull out, so please respect the signs and staff directing traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our small population size has allowed us to offer the main parking lot for all student drivers, as well as parent parking and we intend to continue this practice unless space becomes an issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"week-at-a-glance\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">Student Schedules &amp; Schedule Change Requests<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Student schedules will be available in StudentVue\/ParentVue on September 2<sup>nd<\/sup>&nbsp;(for all schools).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>After schedules come out, if you have questions or concerns about your schedule, please use&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSekFnP7mrVYEIYiigmOl0gSoKxXklT3N_o3Xoz_zQbKWU00kw\/viewform?usp=sf_link\">THIS FORM<\/a>&nbsp;to let us know or request a change.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We do not make schedule changes to move friends together, or to request a different teacher for the same class. Please do not call the office to request a schedule change; if you request follow-up on the form (linked above) we will reach out. Schedule changes can be made up until the 10<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;day of the trimester, and once the school year starts, our counselor and student success coordinator will be available for individual meetings with students (coordinated through that same google form).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"week-at-a-glance\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">A few updates and reminders about School Wide Expectations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attendance:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We want our students here, on time, every day! Our engaging, student-centered instructional model (what attracted you to Realms!) is only effective if our students are present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If your child cannot be at school, or if they will be late, it is important that parents\/guardians call our ATTENDANCE LINE (541-355-5515) to report\/excuse their absence<\/strong>! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you do not call or email us,  your student will be marked ABSENT &#8211; UNEXCUSED and you will receive an automated phone call saying your student was absent from class! If you get an attendance robocall that you believe to be a mistake, please follow-up with our attendance secretary Lisa Johnson (541-355-5504) to get this cleared up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year we will be tracking and unexcused absences and tardies closely and working hard to support every student in being AT SCHOOL and IN CLASS on time! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tech (iPads, cell phones, ear buds, laptops):<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>iPads<\/strong> MUST be fully charged when students arrive in the morning. Parents, please support your student with building and sustaining this habit.<\/li><li>Last year, many students were checking out laptops when their <strong>iPads <\/strong>were at home or without a charge. These Macbooks are expensive and intended for specific educational purposes (for example, coding with Xcode, or using the Adobe Suite). As such, we will not be offering laptops as an alternative to the iPads this year. We do have plenty of keyboards that can attach to iPads available.<\/li><li><strong>HS<\/strong> <strong>CELL PHONE POLICY:  Student phones are to be \u201coff and away\u201d during all class periods.<\/strong> This includes bathroom breaks during class, and this year we will be requiring students to turn in their phones before heading to the bathroom during a class. Parents, if you need to contact your child during the school day, the best way to reach them is through our front office.<\/li><li>Cell phones ARE allowed during passing periods, lunch, and before\/after school. A teacher also MAY explicitly invite students to use their phones during their class.<\/li><li><strong>Ear buds\/headphones<\/strong> follow the same policy as cell phones. They must be away during all class periods unless explicitly invited by their teacher.<\/li><li>If a student is using their phone\/ear buds when they aren\u2019t supposed to, they will be asked to turn it in to their teacher. The teacher will \u201cbag and tag\u201d the phone (to maintain student privacy), and it can be picked up from the front office at the end of the day. If a student\u2019s phone use is becoming a regular issue, we will ask parents to pick up a confiscated phone instead.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" id=\"week-at-a-glance\" style=\"background-color:#97ddef\">PSAT this fall for 11th Graders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">11<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Grade Students and Families,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This fall the PSAT\/NMSQT test will be offered on Saturday, October 15<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;at Summit High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Preliminary SAT\/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT\/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It is recommended for all college bound juniors who have a 3.0 GPA and who have completed or are currently enrolled in Geometry, Algebra 2, or Precalculus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That being said, any student can take the PSAT. The scores from this test are used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program for juniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Priority registration is available now through September 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;through Touchbase. See the document below for directions on how to register and pay for the PSAT.
