{"id":2468,"date":"2022-10-16T22:41:41","date_gmt":"2022-10-16T22:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/?p=2468"},"modified":"2022-10-16T22:41:41","modified_gmt":"2022-10-16T22:41:41","slug":"rms-understanding-midterm-progress-reports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/2022\/10\/16\/rms-understanding-midterm-progress-reports\/","title":{"rendered":"RMS: Understanding Midterm Progress Reports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Dear Parents and Guradians,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">We are now entering our 6th week of school (if you don&#8217;t count the 1st short week &#8211; Confluence) and we want to make sure you are building a good understanding of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-size: 14px\">How you student is doing so far in their academic journey this year<\/span><\/li><li>How to navigate and understand ParentVue and Standards Based Grading at RMS <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers at RMS have and\/or will push out Midterm Progress Reports by email. You should receive these Midterm Progress Reports for the following classes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>Math<\/li><li>Humanities<\/li><li>Science<\/li><li>Art<\/li><li>Mind &amp; Body<\/li><li>You will NOT receive a midterm progress report for Crew, Workshop or Electives.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>These Midterm Progress Reports are simply a snapshot of the information is ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO YOU in ParentVue!!\u00a0<\/strong>You need not wait for a progress report from the teacher to stay caught up with your student\u2019s progress.\u00a0<em>Check ParentVue ANYTIME<\/em> \u2013 the midterm progress report information is straight out of ParentVue!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do I determine my student\u2019s proficiency level?<\/strong>\u00a0At RMS, we do NOT report overall letter grades\u2026 so to know how your student is doing, you must look at the \u201cstandard scores\u201d!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>There are two views for parents in ParentVue \u2013 the Standards View and the Assignment View&#8230; BOTH are useful! <\/li><li>To determine proficiency, you should look at the score on each of the <strong>Standards View<\/strong> in the class. At RMS, we have a \u201cproficiency scale\u201d that goes from 1-6.\u00a0A score of 4 indicates the student is \u201cat grade level\u201d on the particular skill or content standard!\u00a0Any standard with a score <em><strong>below a 4<\/strong><\/em> is an area for growth. See image below.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How do I determine if my student is \u201ccaught up\u201d or staying on track?<\/strong>\u00a0In ParentVue, use the <strong><em>\u201cAssignment View\u201d<\/em><\/strong> to see if any assignments are missing! Missing assignments should be completed as homework!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>Important tasks or assessments that are missing will be marked with a red <em><strong>&#8220;Missing&#8221;<\/strong><\/em> comment<\/li><li>If your student does not know how to complete the missing work, they should work with their teacher and as a parent\/guardian, you are welcome to contact the teacher as well!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What do I do if my student&#8217;s scores are concerning? What if they have Missing Assignments?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>First, remember that there is STILL lots of time to improve grades!\u00a0We are barely half of the way through the trimester and students are still just digging into some of these standards. They will have MORE TIME to build skills and demonstrate proficiency!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>Missing assignments are in many ways a BIGGER CONCERN right now than low standard scores! Missing assignments typically mean the student is not finishing their work in class and likely needs to complete it for homework!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-list\"><li>Teachers DO (almost always) allow students to <em><strong>submit late work and\/or to re-take or re-do assessments\/assignments<\/strong><\/em> to demonstrate increased levels of proficiency. Students are encouraged to talk (or email) their teachers!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Feel free to reach out by email or phone to your student&#8217;s teachers at any time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"567\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/10\/rubric-wo-letter-grade-750x567.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2472\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/10\/rubric-wo-letter-grade-750x567.jpg 750w, https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/10\/rubric-wo-letter-grade-300x227.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/10\/rubric-wo-letter-grade-768x581.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jennifer.scalley\/files\/2022\/10\/rubric-wo-letter-grade.jpg 1462w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-background wp-block-heading\" style=\"background-color:#78cfee\"><strong>Accessing and Navigating ParentVue!<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Parents can check their student&#8217;s grades at ANY TIME using <a href=\"https:\/\/pv.bend.k12.or.us\/PXP2_Login_Parent.aspx?regenerateSessionId=True\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ParentVue<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At RMS, ParentVue is the GO TO place for students and their parents\/guardians to see academic grading information.<\/strong> Canvas is the workflow tool for students but NOT the gradebook. This is <strong><em>different<\/em><\/strong> than other schools in our District who are using Canvas as the default gradebook!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">For all middle school students, we strongly encourage students to visit ParentVue every week or two for a quick check! The transition to high school isn&#8217;t always easy, and it takes ALL OF US to stay on top of any &#8220;slips&#8221; as early as possible!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>If you need help<\/strong> accessing your ParentVue account, start here on this help page.
