Dear Realms Middle and High School Families,\n\nYou might have heard us talk about how we strive to make our curriculum \"RIGOROUS, RELEVANT, AND RADICAL\"!<\/strong><\/em>\n\nWell, right now, that mission is coming to life in tons ways ALL OVER our building (and outside of our building)! Our classrooms are alive with the kinds  activities, assignments, fieldwork and upcoming projects that make me proud to be at al EL Education school<\/a>. I feel incredibly lucky to work at a school where teachers work so hard to make rigorous academics come to life in tangible ways.\n\nThere is MORE of this kind of awesome learning and curriculum to share with you,  and I will do what I can to keep you updated, but for now, I will just say... THANK YOU to our teachers for engaging in this work, thank you to our students for stepping out of their comfort zones, and thank you to all of you parents for supporting this kind of learning!\n\nPlease enjoy this update, and keep in touch!\n\nRoger<\/em><\/strong><\/pre>\n\n\n\n

HIGH SCHOOL EXPEDITIONS: <\/strong>We are currently deep into a 9th grade biology-PE expedition focused on “Survival<\/em><\/strong>“, and a 10th grade US-History-Art 2 expedition called “Power and Privilege”<\/em><\/strong>. These two expeditions involve powerful fieldwork to classroom connections. 9th graders recently foraged for food as a part of “survival” and 10th graders volunteered at the Giving Plate as a part of Power and Privilege! So much more cool curriculum , fieldwork and projects to come with each of these expeditions. Check out the guiding questions for these expeditions here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MIDDLE SCHOOL EXPEDITIONS:<\/strong> We have 7th and 8th grade expeditions focused on forest ecology and watershed biology… both of which include strong science, art, math and humanities tie ins and fieldwork that involves kids in doing very “real world” data collection! Kids are in the field, wading the stream, collecting and analyzing macroinvertebrates, measuring trees and calculating carbon storage, painting, sketching, writing and so much more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CLUB FRIDAYS<\/strong>: This year at Realms HS we have woven student run clubs<\/em><\/strong> directly into our school day. Every Friday students head to their clubs instead of Crew. Students have proposed and created FOURTEEN<\/em><\/strong> different clubs, each with a faculty advisor. This Friday was our 2nd club meeting, and it is awesome to see each of our club leaders leaning into their roles. Clubs include Green Team, Study and Snacks, Just Dance Club, Fiber Arts Club, Applied Statistics (guess which photo!!), Dungeons and Dragons, Jam Band, Garden Club, Painting Club and MORE!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
