\n\n\n\nSTAFFING UPDATES<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
We have several new and AWESOME staff that have either joined (or will soon be joining) our Crew this spring!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mary Dailey<\/strong> has joined to fill Michelle Hanford’s High School English position through the end of the year. Mary has been a teacher for 9 years at Lake Oswego HS as well as a District Specialist in California. Mary will be teaching Lit & Comp 4, coaching Seniors on their Senior Projects and collaborating with Allie Chiavetta and Greg Norris on some Senior Crew classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sarah Isaak Goode <\/strong>has been our fantastic long-term sub for Bethany Skau in the Middle School Art Classroom. She has made incredible connections with students and staff alike and we will be sad to see her go! Tuesday, 4\/16 is her last day with us before moving to her next job (though I suspect she will be around…).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alexis Alipuria<\/strong> will be taking over for Sarah as Bethany’s long-term sub through the end of the year. Alexis is the mom of an awesome Realms High student and comes with a huge list of qualifications including a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. We are excited to welcome Alexis!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Todd Brown<\/strong> joined the Middle School SSC\/Student Support team last week. Todd recently retired from a long career that included special education case management, the Tamarak program, and teaching on a Reservation in Arizona. Among other skills he is a Collaborative Problem Solving Wizard. We are all very thankful to have Todd’s experience and wisdom on deck!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOW RECRUITING BOARD MEMBERS!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The Friends of Realms Board of Directors is an INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT group in the health of Realms Middle and High Schools, and we are actively recruiting new members!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Friends of Realms directs and coordinates the fundraising events that bring in over $60,000 each year for our schools. They also ask as the fiscal stewards for the FoR reserve fund and administer our high school annual scholarship award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are looking for board members to join our group who have an interest or experience in ANY of the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

- finance\/accounting<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- communications\/marketing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- websites<\/li>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\nBETTER WORLD DAY @ RHS, Fri May 3rd.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Better World Day (#BetterWorldDay<\/a> ) hosted by EL Education, is a national event showcasing student projects contributing to a better world. Students work in partnership with each other and their local communities to engage in and celebrate meaningful student work that positively impacts the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Our 10th grade Crew classes (Heidi’s Crew, Anita’s Crew and Yen Ling’s Crew) have taken on the task of organizing several service projects that they for themselves and our 9th grade crews to participate in! On Friday May 3rd, 9th and 10th graders will fan out across the community to make a better world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\nTESTING SCHEDULE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
These tests are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED FOR ALL RMS AND RHS STUDENTS!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
State testing (known as Smarter Balanced or SBAC) is coming up this Spring. These tests are critically important for several reasons and we strongly encourage all students to participate. <\/strong>We encourage families NOT to opt out of this important experience, and here’s why: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
- \n
- Standardized tests are expected as a part of college, careers and life, practicing NOW will help build the skill for later!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- The results are SUPER HELPFUL for Realms as we determine the efficacy of our curriculum and instruction!<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- The individual results do NOT negatively impact students but DO provide us very helpful information<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\nINTENSIVES (ROUND 2) – RHS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Spring Intensives will be running at Realms High School from May 14-17!<\/strong> This round we are excited to be running a few old favorites (Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, Water Sports), some brand-new offerings (Fly Fishing, Outdoor Photography, Sasquatching), and more!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
An important note for families of 12th graders!<\/mark><\/strong> Most Seniors do not need the Intensives Credit and therefore have the option to not attend for these four days. We do expect that all Seniors who are not attending Intensives provide information about what they will be doing instead of attending Intensives using this Google Form<\/a> (also to be sent in Jen’s Senior Newsletter). For all other students this is considered a required part of their Crew curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
