{"id":22,"date":"2015-11-25T04:40:25","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T04:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jim.boen\/?p=22"},"modified":"2015-11-25T04:40:34","modified_gmt":"2015-11-25T04:40:34","slug":"9-25-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jim.boen\/2015\/11\/25\/9-25-15\/","title":{"rendered":"9-25-15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Thank you for your leadership of our middle level students!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are a few things I wanted to highlight this week. \u00a0Some are from days past and some involve a glance ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Past:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">I walked away from our first Horizontal on Monday and felt like it was too rushed. \u00a0Tried to fit too much information into a small amount of time. \u00a0I apologize and I\u2019ll work to get better at this.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">With that said, if you have any questions either now or in the days\/months ahead regarding your School Design Plan (planning or processing of it, philosophy behind it from the district or building level, what works\/doesn\u2019t for goals, upstream indicators or strategies, etc.) please feel free to ask anytime.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">I hope the Word version of the blank SDP template worked for all of you. \u00a0(I emailed this to you on Tuesday of this week.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Future:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">As most of you are aware, Bear Creek has had a Dual Immersion program for a number of years now. \u00a0The first cohort of students are now 5th graders. \u00a0The families of the students involved in this opportunity were promised that there would be a middle school component for their kids, once they reached that level. \u00a0If you did some quick math right there you realized that next fall something needs to be in place at one of your buildings. \u00a0I wanted to update you on where we currently are with this. \u00a0Lora has been asked to pull together a committee whose charge is to make a recommendation to Shay regarding the best MS site to hold this program. \u00a0At this point, the only two middle schools being considered for this opportunity are PBMS and HDMS. \u00a0There have been some small group discussions in the past few weeks, but a recommended site has not been identified. \u00a0There are many factors for these two schools being considered, with proximity to the homes where these kids are living being a major one. \u00a0If you\u2019d like to know further details please let me know and I\u2019d be happy to have that conversation with you. \u00a0The timeline for making a recommendation is short as there are a number of steps that need to happen prior to next fall \u2013 with the hiring of staff being one of the first priorities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">I have invited all MS counselors to a meeting this next Tuesday at 2:30 here at the Ed Center. \u00a0Part of my role this year is the opportunity to meet with our school counselors. \u00a0Let me know if there are any district topics that you think would be good to touch on this year with this group.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Oct. 5 is due date for turning in your Improvement Funds spreadsheet (that was discussed at Horizontal). \u00a0Again, please send your completed copy to Wendy Reeves and myself.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you haven\u2019t already, don\u2019t forget to sign up on the MS Google Calendar for a time in October for me to come do a site visit. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Enjoy the coming days\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Jim<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thank you for your leadership of our middle level students!
