{"id":26,"date":"2015-11-25T04:46:07","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T04:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jim.boen\/?p=26"},"modified":"2015-11-25T04:46:10","modified_gmt":"2015-11-25T04:46:10","slug":"10-23-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jim.boen\/2015\/11\/25\/10-23-15\/","title":{"rendered":"10-23-15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As I mentioned to principals earlier this week, I am very open to your feedback and suggestions of how I might better communicate with you or support the work you do every day in the building. \u00a0Feel free to send me an email, give me a call or ask that I stop by and see you if you\u2019d like to talk about any of these things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Reminders:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nov. 5, 3:15 \u2013 4:30 : ACT Aspire training held at HDMS. \u00a0Plan on bringing a team from your school that may include: admin, ICCL, core teachers, data queens\/kings, others. Those trained will then train others in your building. \u00a0Elementary principals will also be invited, so it will likely be a very full library. \u00a0Please plan accordingly if you want to sit with your school team.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">I will be out of the office from Monday afternoon through the rest of the week. \u00a0I will be checking my email, but if you need to get a hold of me quickly then please call my cell. \u00a0If you can\u2019t reach me, but need immediate assistance, please call either Gary Timms or Jay Mathisen.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">New Information:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">At times there is a need for someone in your building to have access to historical discipline data (either from a different BLS middle school, or from an elementary) regarding a student of yours. \u00a0There is one immediate way to gain this information, and one pending way. \u00a0Following is a quick synopsis of both of these:<\/span>\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Immediate \u2013 Log into ParentVue as the parent. \u00a0Here are instructions from Becky on how to accomplish this:\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Open the student in question (Synergy SIS &gt; Student &gt; Student)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Select the Parent\/Guardian tab, and click a parent\/guardian name (who has Contact Allowed checked)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">In the Parent screen, select the ParentVUE tab<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">Scroll down until you see a button labeled &#8216;Open ParentVUE as Parent&#8217;, click that button<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">In the resulting ParentVUE window, click Discipline in the left hand navigation<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<\/ol>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<ul class=\"ul2\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Pending\u00a0\u2013\u00a0In the coming week(s) principals will be receiving an email providing a secure login and instructions for gaining access to a Synergy back door. \u00a0This access will provide the school with historical discipline access to every middle school student, both those currently enrolled and those not enrolled at your school. \u00a0Additionally, this access will allow you to see all discipline history from any elementary they attended in our district. \u00a0Having this access may be needed at times and is great to provide, but also comes with greater responsibility to keep a lid on the number of folks who have this access. \u00a0Therefore, this access will only be sent to building principals. \u00a0It will be up to her\/him to determine whom else in their building they would like to share this information with. \u00a0Lastly, this secure login information will change every academic year \u2013 the password you receive will only be good for 2015-16.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Clarification re: interior windows being covered. \u00a0I spoke with Julianne regarding whether current practice\/recommendation is for interior classroom windows to be covered during a lockdown situation. \u00a0She indicated the recommendation has changed to a practice of <\/span><span class=\"s2\">windows should not be covered<\/span><span class=\"s1\">. \u00a0What is important is that those in the classroom are out of sight, quiet, and the door is locked. \u00a0There will more coming regarding safety recommendations at our November Leadership meeting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s1\">Would you be interested in me inviting a police officer to our next Horizontal to talk to us regarding \u201csigns\u201d or \u201cwhat to look for\u201d \u00a0or \u201ccurrent trends\u201d related to drug\/alcohol use amongst our students?
