If you aren&#8217;t sure what that schedule is, here you go! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be the \u201cregular\u201d MS schedule (bell times of 10:35 \u2013 4:25). NOTE: We will have kids in person on Wednesday. (If we don&#8217;t have kids in the building on Wednesday then we most likely wouldn&#8217;t have any show up for school on Thursday.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday will be an SIW release (bell times of 10:33 \u2013 2:57).     _________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1NI_AAPwunJhpONmjZuVCRuNAqsClV06X\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\">Here is a link<\/a> (I made it accessible to anyone with the link) to a Spanish-translated document that provides information about <strong>borrowed hot spots and (non-) return of iPads<\/strong>. [Last week I shared the English translation of the hot spot communication.].    _________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Please pass along (to your staff) this reminder<\/strong> regarding the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ERqlbWw1sKQQksdqT_8M4CWtwyPWWuHs\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\">Employee Assistance Program<\/a> service that is available to your staff.     _________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">THIS and THAT:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A number of weeks ago you attended a virtual &#8220;anti-biased&#8221; interview\/hiring process training that Deon facilitated.  <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1cUdD6Oj6gEzcqJDHwblNYvKLm4UslVpIZ30Vh-caMdM\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\">Here is a one-pager reminder<\/a> of some of the highlights from that training that may be useful to review prior to processes that you are no doubt in the midst of now. Also, here is the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OoBvzI-YZf4\" target=\"_blank\">video link to the implicit bias video<\/a> that was shown during that training.    _________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And speaking of being aware of your biases, specifically during hiring processes, here is an article from CareerPlug that made me go &#8220;hmm&#8221;<strong> as I considered my own unconscious biases<\/strong> I bring to the table: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.careerplug.com\/blog\/9-hiring-biases-that-are-hurting-your-recruiting-efforts\/\" target=\"_blank\">9 Hiring Biases that are Hurting your Recruiting Efforts<\/a>. As a summary of this article, here is a <em>9 Common Types of Hiring Bias<\/em> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/12gno23uo3pg18e2lq1vatuv-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Hiring-Biases-Infographic-FINAL-2.png\" target=\"_blank\">cheat sheet<\/a> that provided a really nice summary.     _________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are some <strong>changes regarding the sign-in process for DHS employees<\/strong>. Give me a call (now or next time you have a DHS employee come to your school) to learn more.     _________________________________________________________________________________<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following are a couple of items from Kinsey. The second one is mainly an HS item, except for the notion that ELA classes are transitioning in name to &#8220;language arts&#8221; instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hiring reminders and updates<\/strong><br>Hiring\u00a0<em>bilingual<\/em>\u00a0staff?\u00a0 In order to ensure quality communication services for our families and appropriate compensation for bilingual staff, we are beginning a new employee language assessment and compensation process.\u00a0 This will not begin until next year, so\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/17HOaQMKdbw_QeoG3UWH1cw1iwO55-r7B\/view?usp=sharing\">this is<\/a>\u00a0just a preview of the process, as it will impact any bilingual staff you have or are hiring now, who may support family communication.\u00a0 If you have questions, please contact Kinsey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>New state legislation<\/strong><br>Check out\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1NpMJSoaZjkeQIN1mUzlFIeIkQ_vUTW4W\/view?usp=sharing\">this<\/a>\u00a0change to state policy!\u00a0 Oregon is removing the word &#8220;English&#8221; from the Language Arts graduation requirements.\u00a0 This officially allows credits earned via Language Arts courses taught in other languages to count toward graduation.\u00a0\u00a0<br><em>What does this mean for you?<\/em><br>Likely, not much impact on you right now&#8211;this is designed to support Dual Immersion programs around the state in offering bi-literacy coursework throughout the K-12 program sequence.\u00a0\u00a0Non-English LA courses still must be designed around grade-specific LA standards, and must use appropriate LA curriculum (World Language, heritage, and bilingual\/ELL courses have their own standards, distinct from LA).\u00a0 We will continue alignment efforts to ensure our LA courses are teaching LA standards, using high-quality diverse curriculum, and meeting graduation and college requirements for these credits.<br>In the meantime, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">you can work with your team on shifting your language from &#8220;English&#8221; courses\/departments to &#8220;Language Arts.&#8221;<\/span>\u00a0 If you have questions\/ideas about courses to support our multilingual learners, reach out to Kinsey!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-light-gray-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">REMINDERS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reminder that <strong>Tuesday&#8217;s Horizontal <\/strong>will be set aside for our last admin PD with Dave (Dean has a different commitment so will not make it).
