{"id":352,"date":"2016-10-27T23:25:21","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T23:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jim.boen\/?p=352"},"modified":"2016-10-27T23:25:21","modified_gmt":"2016-10-27T23:25:21","slug":"10-28-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/jim.boen\/2016\/10\/27\/10-28-16\/","title":{"rendered":"10.28.16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>To Do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By now you have spoken with or received SLGGs from your certified teachers. \u00a0So, it is time to begin (if you haven&#8217;t already) thinking about your SLGGs for this year. \u00a0Please have those in Talent Ed no later than Friday, November 18.<\/li>\n<li>There is a small group that meets monthly to discuss district safety issues. \u00a0Discussed are both big picture, district-wide topics as well as level and building questions\/concerns. \u00a0Mr. Hecker was the MS rep for the past number of years. \u00a0Obviously, we are in need of<strong>\u00a0a new rep for middle schools<\/strong>. \u00a0The meetings generally fall on the third or fourth Thursday of the month and start at 7:30am. \u00a0Please let me know if you might be interested.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>This and That:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Last Friday\u00a0when I was in Salem as part of the ODE Advisory Panel for Counseling we watched a\u00a0video called <strong><em>The Science of Character<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0In a nutshell, it talks about focusing and growing those character traits that are good within us, as opposed to focusing on those characteristics that are not as good within us\u00a0and trying to fix those.\u00a0This reminded me of Dan and Chip Heath&#8217;s concepts of\u00a0&#8220;bright spot&#8221; recognition and &#8220;cloning&#8221; those things that we want to see more of (from their book <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SWITCH<\/span>), as well as your work around the &#8220;Student B&#8221; bucket of\u00a0Thriving Citizens. \u00a0The video is just over eight minutes long, but worth your time I believe!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Science of Character\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U3nT2KDAGOc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first of six <strong>Digital Leadership Academy PD<\/strong> sessions will take place on Nov. 7 from 2:00 &#8211; 5:00 at PCMS. \u00a0This sessions specific topic is titled: Leading a Culture of Innovation. \u00a0Sign up for this session and the other five in PD Place. \u00a0If you are wanting CAL credit for your involvement in these trainings then you need to email Skip your name.<\/li>\n<li>As you know, some of our classified positions are difficult to fill, or remain open (e.g. bus drivers, custodial, etc.) indefinitely. \u00a0Because of this our district is going to hold a <strong>Classified Job Fair<\/strong> at Bend High on Saturday, Nov. 5.
