Quick reminder that staff members who wish to create a professional social media account need to check in with Alandra Johnson. She has some important guidelines and tips to share about using social media while representing our schools. Send an email to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:Alandra.johnson@bend.k12.or.us\">Alandra.johnson@bend.k12.or.us<\/a>&nbsp;(She is also glad to hear from those who have already created accounts and now want to make them official.)<\/li><li><strong>RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES<\/strong>: When sharing community resources with families, be sure to use our district pages, which are updated, vetted and approved (many are also translated):&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/district\/parents\/families-need\">Families in Need<\/a>&nbsp;also&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/district\/parents\/families-need\/familias-necesitadas\">Familias necesitadas<\/a>&nbsp;(Spanish)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/district\/parents\/student-mental-health\">Student Mental Health<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/coronavirus\">COVID-19<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bend.k12.or.us\/informacion\">Informaci\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0(resources in Spanish)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">****************************************************************************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a <strong>FAN Advocate update<\/strong> from Dana:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Talk to your FAN Advocate about assigning a\u00a0classified staff member to help with outreach. \u00a0Some schools have done this and it has helped lessen the load for the FAN\u00a0Advocate.\u00a0<\/li><li>We will be\u00a0conducting our Spring MAC Survey the week of April 20. \u00a0Mara Stephens and the FAN Advocates will get information out to staff. \u00a0Mara has also recorded training that can be viewed by staff members that need to complete the MAC training.\u00a0<\/li><li>Please remind staff that if they hear of\u00a0families\u00a0that are now homeless, we need to get them counted. \u00a0Connect with your FAN Advocate so she can follow up.<\/li><li>There is a district team that is working to\u00a0identify locations\u00a0where\u00a0students are not able to access the\u00a0Grab and Go lunches. \u00a0Look for\u00a0information in the days to come about expanded food delivery\u00a0locations.<\/li><li>FAN Advocates are collecting names for the Hot Spots. \u00a0Dana, Ben, and Skip\u00a0continue to coordinate\u00a0with Bend Broadband to get connectivity up for those that apply. \u00a0Hot Spots will be coming soon, and a plan for\u00a0distribution will\u00a0follow also. \u00a0<\/li><li>Please take a\u00a0minute to reach out and thank your Advocate. \u00a0They are all working incredibly hard and are doing\u00a0everything they can to connect students and\u00a0families to services. \u00a0<\/li><li>If you feel there is an unmet need, please don\u2019t\u00a0hesitate to email or call Dana\u00a0Pedersen. \u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">****************************************************************************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1WhdXyJanOYQnCToh6CLqjLnjLPyCGDR9\/view?usp=sharing\">Parent Letter <\/a>Sean Reinhart is sending to parents of students on an IEP, this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">****************************************************************************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Athletics and OSAA: <\/strong> The following message was sent to HS ADs recently by Sal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Well\u2026the worst case scenario just became realty. School is officially closed through the end of the year and thus <strong>OSAA has officially canceled spring sports and all-state competitions<\/strong>. The OSAA calendar governs through the end of May and resumes after moratorium week (this year early Aug).\u00a0<strong><u>BLP is extending all current sports\/activities closures through the end of our school year, June 14<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0There will be some gray area between June 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0through early Aug. No decision has currently been made regarding this time frame however we hope to provide more clarity before the end of the 19\/20 school year. <em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BLP does not currently support any virtual sports competitions that involve BLP staff in any way. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pay to Play<\/strong> fees for spring OSAA athletics and activities will be refunded to families.  The business office has been in touch with your Office Manager regarding <strong>repayments to your families<\/strong>. All the links are set for\u00a0<em>Anyone with the link can view<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1grqj9kaCQq7GUQWsX-OI4qv3bu6WocH6akMZAjm-eFA\/edit?usp=sharing\">Behavior Coaching Tools: For Parents &amp; Families<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">****************************************************************************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Scott Bojanowski: <\/strong>During this morning\u2019s safety meeting, we had some questions from school administrators about our SROs and if they will continue to serve our schools now that school buildings are closed for the remainder of the school year. I talked with our SRO supervisors at Bend PD and Deschutes County Sheriff\u2019s office today.\u00a0<br>The <strong>SROs will be on patrol duty during the weekdays<\/strong>, but they are still available to assist school administrators when needed.\u00a0 As always if there is an emergency, please call 911 to get law enforcement assistance ASAP.<br>Jimmy Krauger (Summit HS) and Amy Ward (Bend HS) will be working patrol Monday \u2013 Thursday 8:00 AM \u2013 6:00 PM and Scott Schaier (Middle Schools\/Marshall HS) and Erik Ammon (MVHS) will be working Tuesday \u2013 Friday 8:00 \u2013 6:00 pM on patrol.\u00a0 I did not receive specific shift times for Deputy Bryan Morris is South County, but he will be working during the weekdays.<br>The SROs will continue to try and help serve meals at the designated school sites, and will be available for school administrators to call or email with support requests (i.e. welfare checks on students, vandalism reports, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">****************************************************************************************<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Canvas:<\/strong>  Our district is in the process of <strong>adopting Canvas<\/strong>, which is a learning management system (LMS) that allows for everything about a course to be accessed in one place.  <strong>Every teacher<\/strong> in our district has been set up with <strong>their own Canvas account<\/strong>, so staff can begin using the platform.  Many of our teachers currently use <strong>Google Classroom<\/strong>, which can be used <strong>in conjunction with Canvas<\/strong>.  Here is some helpful information from Laura Clark about how to get started.
