{"id":168,"date":"2018-11-10T05:59:14","date_gmt":"2018-11-10T05:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/?p=168"},"modified":"2018-11-10T05:59:14","modified_gmt":"2018-11-10T05:59:14","slug":"november-9-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/2018\/11\/10\/november-9-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"November 9, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>T0 D0:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>DHS no longer wants a paper copy of abuse referrals<\/strong>.\u00a0 They<strong> DO<\/strong> want a phone call.\u00a0 Please continue to fill out the reporting form, keep one copy, and send one copy to Jody in the Office of School Support.<\/li>\n<li>Check out this <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/10sekXtk2PqzDRLhEEz9fMJqRMrrCddhM\/view?usp=sharing\">great opportunity<\/a> with the <strong>Cascade Culinary Institute<\/strong> at OSU-Cascades.<\/li>\n<li>Please share this opportunity with your science teachers.\u00a0 The Oregon Science Teacher Association is hosting an introduction to <strong>Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) instructional model<\/strong> on Nov. 30 at Redmond HS from 8:00 \u2013 3:00.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1Z7e-eANGWwIPTP0LMJmuACzlu5dwyqfr\/view?usp=sharing\">Check out this flyer<\/a> for more information!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Informational:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*At our last HS Principal meeting, we agreed to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We will decide on a district <strong>&#8220;Open Block Request&#8221;<\/strong> form that we will require parents and students to sign for a student to have an open block.\u00a0 I will send out a draft within the next few weeks.<\/li>\n<li>An aligned <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1EW5gjESByN9ZiFWvd8yedZllD5BsGSTN\/view?usp=sharing\">ACR\/Choice School<\/a> process that is completed by March.\u00a0 I will run this by Cabinet.<\/li>\n<li>Next year, we will run period 7 the way we run period 1 this year &#8211; three period 7&#8217;s at the end of the day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*<strong>School start and end times for students have been decided for next year<\/strong>.\u00a0 They exact times may change, but these are close:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Elementary will be 8:00-2:30 (8:00-1:00 on Wednesdays)<\/li>\n<li>Middle School will be 8:45- 3:40 (8:45\u20131:55 on Wednesdays)<\/li>\n<li>High School will be 8:45-3:45 (8:45-2:00 on Wednesdays)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <em>District Lead Together<\/em> team is currently working on a process to collect input on <strong>employee work times for\u00a0next year<\/strong>. This may come in the form of your staff completing a survey in the coming weeks. The basic question relates to the amount of time we want staff \u201con duty\u201d prior to and after classes.\u00a0 Currently staff are required to report at 7:15, be in their rooms for tutorial and work until 3:15 (30 min before and after student start and end times).\u00a0 Will we continue with tutorial before school as an expectations for teachers?\u00a0 Also, consider if it makes more sense to make before or after school a longer chunk of time and the opposite (before\/after) a shorter amount of time.\u00a0\u00a0 More information to follow once the survey has been created.<\/p>\n<p>*<strong>Attendance and <\/strong>extra curricular<strong> participation:\u00a0<\/strong> Recently, we learned of clarification related to how we record student absences this year.\u00a0Last year, ODE published <strong><u>draft<\/u> guidance<\/strong> suggesting that students should be marked absent for time spent traveling during the school day for extra-curricular activities.\u00a0 Final guidance has <strong>not yet been published<\/strong> by ODE.\u00a0 Therefore, in 2018-2019 we will submit attendance data using the same calculations that we have used for the past several years. In other words, <strong>this year student absences for school-sponsored events<\/strong> (e.g. music, athletic, or field trip travel) <strong>will be considered EXCUSED absences<\/strong>.
