{"id":26,"date":"2018-08-29T20:55:39","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T20:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/?p=26"},"modified":"2018-08-29T20:59:46","modified_gmt":"2018-08-29T20:59:46","slug":"august-23-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/2018\/08\/29\/august-23-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"August 29, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School Leaders:<\/p>\n<p>I hope your welcome back week is going well!\u00a0 I am excited about a new school year and all of the wonder it will bring!<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Do<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Every school is <strong>required to be trained in QPR<\/strong> every three years.\u00a0 This training can be completed during an SIW.\u00a0 Please register your staff for this 90 minute\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1Q4PaQvkf4Wonk8q4DzNF74S_YTw9Xi41DVWhT8oDJwo\/edit#gid=0\">Suicide Prevention Training.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Jim Boen and I have been working with Whitney Schumacher of <strong>Deschutes County Health Services<\/strong> on a PILOT program called <strong><em>Teen Intervene.\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>This program would provide an option to suspension for students with drug and alcohol violations.\u00a0 Whitney will present the program at our <strong>September 24 HS Admin Meeting<\/strong> and to <strong>HS Counselors at their October<\/strong> meeting.\u00a0 For your convenience, you can review the <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1bzu5RWYyjlhtC_5tIgg942QmYfDKZh75\/view?usp=sharing\">Program Proposal,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1yh3mDU-3ddwCJyrDuV5VknhaEmLvAQIN\/view?usp=sharing\">Teen Intervene Screening Guidelines<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/14ZYodLBWO9o0t-RlQTyh_Do3wcW2KXXJ\/view?usp=sharing\">Screening Tools<\/a> prior to the meeting.\u00a0 We are looking for <strong>six high schools and middle schools to PILOT<\/strong> the program beginning mid year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Informational:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There is a <a href=\"https:\/\/deschutescountyqpr.eventbrite.com\/?\">QPR (Suicide) Training<\/a> available September 12 from 5:30-7:30 sponsored by Deschutes County Health Services.<\/li>\n<li>This <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/11wqMKbE_RrgRRzw0nLeVMd_wDf0MWji0\/view?usp=sharing\">Equity Policy<\/a> has been approved by the district.\u00a0 It will provide a lens for our work in schools and district wide.\u00a0 Consider what safeguards you currently have in place, or need to add, to insure equity and access for ALL students to the best of what we offer!<\/li>\n<li>It is exciting that we have <strong>two new high schools<\/strong> that will provide additional personalized\u00a0learning experiences and different educational opportunities to our students:\u00a0 <strong>Skyline High School<\/strong> and <strong>REALMS High School<\/strong>.\u00a0 Also, you may have seen <em><strong>The Bulletin<\/strong><\/em> article on Marshall HS and changes happening there.\u00a0 These schools will provide fantastic additions to our options for students!\u00a0 All three schools are now considered <strong>choice schools <\/strong>so follow the <strong>district application process <\/strong>and currently have space to accept new students (15-30 spots, depending on the school).<\/li>\n<li>Jim Boen continues to oversee <strong>discipline<\/strong> at the district level.\u00a0 However, I am your first point of contact if you have questions.\u00a0 Students who were in STRIVE in the spring are pointed to Marshall HS.\u00a0 STRIVE is not available for newly expelled HS students until the completion of the new construction on that campus, which is scheduled to be done in February, 2019.\u00a0 Until then, options are COIC, home tutoring and LUNA.\u00a0 LUNA runs 3-6 Mon-Thurs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Reminders:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Principals, return\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1MRYv7hLE7B3xM1KAvQKH5tRzYEEx5HYs\/view?usp=sharing\">this year\u2019s admin work calendar<\/a>\u00a0to me by the start of September. Please take your best guess of days\u00a0you will not be working\u00a0by blocking them out on the calendar.\u00a0 Assistant Principals, you should turn yours in to your principal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If you haven&#8217;t already, please let me know when you\u2019d like for me to come to your site for a 30 min visit in the next few weeks.<\/strong>\u00a0 There is nothing you need to prepare for in advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Calendar:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<ul>\n<li>Expect to hear more about the importance of equity in our work.\u00a0 Consider taking a team to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosa.k12.or.us\/events\/2018equity\"><strong>Statewide Educator Equity Summit<\/strong><\/a><\/em> sponsored by <strong>COSA<\/strong> on Sept 27.<\/li>\n<li>Mark your calendars for the <strong>Check and Connect<\/strong> training for Grad Coaches and Building Admin scheduled for <strong>Oct 17 and 18 at the HDESD in Redmond<\/strong>.\u00a0 Plan on sending your <strong>Grad Coach and one administrator<\/strong> to this training.\u00a0 There is no cost to schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<footer class=\"entry-footer\">\n<div class=\"entry-meta\"><\/div>\n<\/footer>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School Leaders: I hope your welcome back week is going well!\u00a0 I am excited about a new school year and all of the wonder it will bring!
