Dave Van Loo shared out some excellent pieces on equitable grading.  Dave writes:  &#8220;The ideas are mostly familiar but it does contain quantitative and qualitative impact data on the effect of deliberately equitable grading practices, which is powerful. This does a nice job of framing grading of students as an equity issue. Some of the comments in this closely mirror what the student in yesterday\u2019s (at Monday&#8217;s Leadership Team Meeting) panel said.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/12P1KTliClAysOqCztLknf6JJM3snblJC\/view?usp=sharing\">Call to Action for Equitable Grading article<\/a>   <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1PYwL5Sa5NSjkxq6oZmgED6WgsnTm2uuW\/view?usp=sharing\">Hattie&#8217;s 250 influences<\/a>  <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1QMSXkXzVsQFav-OtL8PACGbogbSyCyb3\/view?usp=sharing\">Why Grades Drop When Students Get to High School and What Adults Can Do About It.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On February 5, ODE sent out a memo regarding attendance, which supports our belief in engaging students in extra curricular activities.  <em>Beginning in the  2019-20 school year, all time spent engaging in school-sponsored extracurricular activities during the official school day (including travel) will be counted as time present for the Cumulative ADM data collection. School-sponsored,  extracurricular activities include but are not limited <\/em><em>to:<\/em><em> sporting activities, mathletes, music events, drama, debate <\/em><em>and<\/em><em> robotic competitions. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Any time spent engaged with these activities (including travel) will count as time present in the Cumulative ADM data collection. It is important to note that the reporting of students as &#8220;present&#8221; for time spent traveling to and from sporting events and extracurricular activities (instructionally-related activities) does not alter the definition of instructional time as defined in<\/em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/secure.sos.state.or.us\/oard\/displayDivisionRules.action?selectedDivision=2563\" target=\"_blank\"><em> OAR 581-022-0102(30)<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools will open the 2019 <strong>Classroom Grants program<\/strong> on&nbsp;<strong>February 18, 2019<\/strong>. Educators may submit one grant but schools may on the activities several grants with principals&nbsp;indicating mostly familiar priority of requests. The <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1HFOb7fjEPRHPIfUcm76EVPc1f9IOzzvK\/view?usp=sharing\">online grant application and guidelines<\/a> will be available at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.engagedminds.org\/\">www.engagedminds.org<\/a>&nbsp;beginning Feb. 18th. The program closes at 5pm on&nbsp;<strong>Friday, March 22, 2019<\/strong>.  An email communicating this information to all BLS educators grading of&nbsp;will be distributed by the Superintendent\u2019s office on February  19th.&nbsp; Last year the Foundation awarded over $89,000 in innovative STEM,  art, music &amp; wellness grants!&nbsp; Any questions?
