{"id":34,"date":"2018-09-07T23:35:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T23:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/?p=34"},"modified":"2018-09-07T23:35:28","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T23:35:28","slug":"sept-7-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/2018\/09\/07\/sept-7-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Sept 7, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the end of the first week, <em><strong>High School Rock Stars<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>What an <strong>inspiration<\/strong> it was to spend time in each of your schools this week!\u00a0 I am in awe of the terrific work you and your dynamic staffs are orchestrating to provide <strong>positive, rewarding experiences<\/strong> for our youth each day.\u00a0 You make a difference in their lives and in our collective future!<\/p>\n<p><strong>To do:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I appreciate the work you are doing with your registrars to insure that <strong>&#8220;no shows&#8221; are removed<\/strong> from Synergy <strong>by the end of the day on Monday<\/strong>.\u00a0 Early next week, we will review overall attendance in light of projections.\u00a0 Having accurate numbers is key.<\/li>\n<li>Please insure your <strong>Grad Coach, 1 building admin and counselor\/lead teacher<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ISfpMWOKf8ePKfAJO_H775oiJhkdYsx4hzKxohwqOyo\/edit?usp=sharing\">REGISTER<\/a> for the\u00a0<strong>Check and Connect<\/strong> training scheduled for <strong>Oct 17 and 18 at the HDESD in Redmond<\/strong>.\u00a0 This training is key to supporting the <strong>MTSS framework<\/strong> in our high schools.\u00a0 There is no cost to schools, unless you choose to send a classroom teacher.\u00a0 You would need to cover the cost of the teacher&#8217;s sub.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Informational:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recently, our state decided that a SBAC <strong>\u201copt out\u201d will be counted as a \u201cDoes Not Meet\u201d<\/strong> from now on.\u00a0 This news is concerning to school leaders for a few reasons.\u00a0 <em>First, the perception \u2013 portrayed through the media \u2013 of how well our schools are doing educating kids in our community will likely take a hit as this change will no doubt drop our school\u2019s \u201cMeet\u201d percentage. Second, the validity (and usefulness) of analyzing OAKS scores for informing instruction just got less valid, reliable and useful. (Jim&#8217;s opinions, with which I agree!)\u00a0 <\/em>Last spring we spoke of rethinking our current &#8220;opt out&#8221; practices for SBAC.\u00a0 Begin thinking about how we can impact this precedent in our schools as we will be hitting this topic in the coming weeks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jen Goodman is the Behavior Coach<\/strong> assigned to high schools.\u00a0 She can assist with supporting and developing Tier 3 behavior supports for students can help to facilitate multi-tiered implementations of MTSS.\u00a0 We are fortunate to have Jen&#8217;s expertise available to us!\u00a0\u00a0 Reach out to Sean, Colleen or Josh if you have a questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Calendar:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I have updated the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1KnNfMNhvXd4mlefYzA6U7F6fbml6U_vTMtykcNqoxT4\/edit?usp=sharing\">Leadership Meeting Schedule.<\/a>\u00a0 There are a few changes\/additions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>HS Admin<\/strong> meeting is<strong> Sept 24 at BSHS, 3:15<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>NEW Admin training is Oct 1, 1:45<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Leadership meeting is Oct 1, 3:15<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<footer class=\"entry-footer\"><\/footer>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome to the end of the first week, High School Rock Stars!
