{"id":6059,"date":"2023-01-20T11:55:04","date_gmt":"2023-01-20T19:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/?p=6059"},"modified":"2023-01-20T13:42:38","modified_gmt":"2023-01-20T21:42:38","slug":"january-20-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bend.k12.or.us\/katie.legace\/2023\/01\/20\/january-20-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"January 20, 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To Do:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>February 7th- ICCL\/Admin Collaboration<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order to create space for ICCL team time and collaboration, we will not be hosting a district ICCL team training on February 7th.&nbsp; We are asking you to reserve two hours with your ICCL team between now and our next meeting on April 4th.&nbsp; We will be asking ICCL teams to collaboratively share a promising practice or an effort that they are proud of and would like to showcase (aka \u201cBraggy Show and Tell Moment\u201d) around Tier One MTSS Culture and Climate&nbsp;<em>or<\/em>&nbsp;a Tier One Instructional practice (specifically foundational skills for elementary).&nbsp; Please communicate with your ICCLs regarding the change in calendar.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">April 4th prep:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please prepare a 10 minute presentation on a promising practice or an effort that the ICCL team&nbsp; is proud of including the linkages below.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Linkages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tier 1 culture and climate or Tier 1 instructional practices.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborative inquiry cycle &#8211; describe how the team went through the cycle or what data sources were used to make the decision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If possible, link to school design plan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide archival documents etc. to share with other schools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elem &#8211; link to tier 1 core effectiveness meetings (perhaps link to the data question that drove the inquiry cycle)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Dean:<\/strong>  In collaboration with the Bend Downtown Association our students will have the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>\u00a0annual <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1l7LKlTYmwlinBnM5EAoMxBB67dc9BLJ6\/view?usp=sharing\">Youth Art Takeover <\/a>in Downtown Bend.\u00a0\u00a0Our celebration of artists and gallery walk will correspond with\u00a0<strong>First Friday Event, on April 7th<\/strong>. This event is how we will be honoring our students who have won awards for the Scholastic Art competition, senior portfolios, etc., as well as honoring teacher choice artists. We need your help determining how well we are meeting the needs of Oregon students! We are hoping to recruit&nbsp;<strong>paid educator panelists<\/strong>&nbsp;to consult on a grant-funded research project. If you are interested in this opportunity, please&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/app.smartsheet.com\/b\/form\/71a17184cc0b43c59da10299e75d95f3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">complete this Smartsheet form.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Oregon Department of Education was awarded a competitive Institute of Educational Sciences (IES) grant in June of 2020 in partnership with researchers at the University of Oregon. The project is titled,<a href=\"https:\/\/ies.ed.gov\/funding\/grantsearch\/details.asp?ID=4533\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>A Study in Equity: Oregon&#8217;s 9th Grade Transition<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;and leverages our Statewide Longitudinal Data System and the work of our High School Success (HSS) team. Our progress has been impacted by the pandemic, but we are continuing the work and hoping to pursue engagement with educators who have worked with HSS programs in Oregon. A select number of educators will be recruited to participate in regional teacher panels, with whom we will consult to develop a better understanding of study results and implementation of HSS plans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are hoping to recruit 18 total teacher panelists, one representing each respective Education Service District in the state. The department will arrange for temporary employee contracts for each panelist at a rate of $150 per meeting for four meetings per year. ODE will also pay panelists $150 to complete required ODE staff training. This will result in a total contract of up to $750 for those who complete the required training and fully participate in all four meetings. The plan is to continue the same panels for next year, but this will depend on feedback and results. Meetings are anticipated to run no more than 60-90 minutes each, and will be conducted virtually and outside of regular school hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ODE will recruit to include diversity in terms of race\/ethnicity as well as ESD representation, HSS participation, and other aspects of feedback helpful to inform thinking. All applicants are very welcome. We will also privilege membership for one representative from Juvenile Detention or Youth Corrections Education Programs and one from a virtual charter school. Those selected will be offered temporary employee contracts and notified of ODEs virtual training requirements and how to complete them.
