This will be orientation week for grades 4-5 (half of the students will attend orientation on Tuesday, and half will attend on Thursday). Wednesday or Friday.

Staffing: Most of you have probably heard that April Diehl will be on leave for the remainder of the school year due to childcare issues. Kathy will be out for a few weeks to help care for her parents; Sedonia Darling (Alder and Ole’s mom) will be filling in for her – please help her feel welcome and supported.

Team-Up & Kids Inc.: There will no longer be a Team-up program in B-wing. Next week Team Up will only have the 4th and 5th-grade students attending. Those Team Up students who are not attending their orientation day will still attend Team-Up. It will also be when Kids Inc starts up. And then starting Feb 1st is when Team Up will begin for the A-B cohort kids.

Exterior Doors (From Scott Bojanowski): Please ensure all exterior doors remain closed and locked unless they are physically supervised by staff to allow students to enter or exit. Once the staff member leaves the exterior doorway, the door should be locked and closed. **Note from Kelle: We have recently had many exterior doors left unlocked and/or open and unsupervised.

Before School Duty: Before school duty for classroom teachers begins tomorrow (Monday). Here is the guidance I received: Laying books out on tables is the best practice but having a book shopping schedule and having kids wash hands before and after “shopping” has been vetted by the health professional team.

Valentines: Some of you have asked about Valentine’s parties and the dos and don’ts related to COVID. After speaking with Paul, below is some guidance:

Valentine cards will need to follow the same safe handling rules as all materials (72 hours to sit). Plan to have students bring their Valentines to school and distribute them in individual boxes by Tuesday, 2/9; the boxes can then sit until Friday, February 12th, when students open them at Valentine parties.

Any candies brought need to be sealed airtight – i.e., foil-wrapped Hershey Kisses are not airtight.

If students bring their Valentine cards with less than 72 hours to sit, their cards can be laid out on a table and misted with the electrostatic machines.

EME January Back-to-school Q&A Document: This document is now closed to further questions and will not continue to be updated.
