Staffing:<\/strong> Principals have not received 2022-2023 staffing plans yet, but hope to have more information about staffing for the next school year soon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media Manager: <\/strong>Lindsey O’Neill will be starting on Monday! We will have a sub in the library on Monday and Tuesday as we get Lindsey trained and her feet on the ground. Please swing by the media center and give her a warm welcome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SIW Agenda: <\/strong>SIW this week is \u201cSchool Discretion,\u201d so it will be grade-level team time. Please plan on meeting with your team for at least 90 minutes of that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conferences:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conference Confirmation Forms – These forms will be in your box by Tuesday AM so you can send exact dates and times home to families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sibling Scheduling – I spoke with a few classroom teachers about whether coordinating sibling scheduling would be helpful for conferences this spring or too complicated. The unanimous feedback was that it made it too complicated since we already have to juggle three different formats (phone, video, and in-person). Please feel free to coordinate with other teachers if you choose to, but we will not be having a required sibling scheduling time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translators – If you have families that will require an interpreter, please do not fill up your schedule without talking to Therese. Therese will have translation timeslots to you by Tuesday 3\/28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Job Fairs – I will be out of the building supporting BLS at the Portland Job Fair on Tuesday 3\/29. The Central Oregon Job Fair will be 4\/11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SBAC Math & Literacy (From the TLC Update this week\/ K-5 Coaches): <\/strong>Large scale summative assessments are designed to measure the health of systems<\/em>. They can help systems look at what we\u2019re doing well, on the whole, and where there is a need for some investments for improvement. They illuminate places where various student groups perform differently than others. They can help us look at matters of pacing, true alignment to the standards, depth and DOK called for by the standards, the quality of instructional materials, and where to invest in professional learning, etc. They are not good at giving us much useful information at the student or even specific classroom level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Systems, at their best, are using trends in target data from the summative assessment to address some of the issues mentioned above. Decisions are often made based on students\u2019 summative assessment results that turn them into very high-stakes events. Placement in an AP course or advanced track, frequency of intervention, and so on. And, of course, students pick up on this in ways that affect their identities as learners. A student who sees her name in red and needing Tier 3 support, for example, after taking Smarter Balanced in the spring may believe she\u2019s not good at math or \u201cnot a math person.\u201d And the cycle repeats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please do not try to cram in additional content or do extensive test prep. Instead, consider making your students familiar with the platform and learn about available resources to use during testing sessions in this ODE Newsletter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spending Due Date:<\/strong> Student body and general fund accounts need to be spent by April 15th (or ask Kelle for permission to spend it after that date). Please see Chris if you aren\u2019t sure how much money you still have in your account(s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parent Volunteers:<\/strong> Parent volunteers are able to start working in our building again starting this week! Before a volunteer can begin, you will need to get official confirmation from Cindy or Chris that the parent has passed the background check. Once they say yes, you will need to add them to the weekly google document letting us know who to expect each day<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
