More information coming next week about sibling scheduling date, translators, when notes will be sent home, etc&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read-a-thon:<\/strong>\u00a0Like\u00a0the past couple of\u00a0years,\u00a0our Elk Meadow sponsored fundraiser this year will be a read-a-thon in early March and will raise money for art education for our students. The read-a-thon will kickoff at our Eagle Spirit Assembly on March 6th and run through Friday, March 13th. More information will be coming soon, but I wanted to give you all a heads up in case you would like to plan some fun reading activities as a class\/ grade level\/ wing during the read-a-thon to keep it fun and alive. Also, if it works for your classroom, it would be great if you could schedule a 20 minute reading block each day of our read-a-thon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Staffing Ratios:<\/strong>  At our last staff meeting I told you I would share the class size numbers that are used as the starting point for staffing for the past few years:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>K: 22<\/li><li>1: 22<\/li><li>2: 24<\/li><li>3: 27<\/li><li>4: 31<\/li><li>5: 31<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2\/26 SIW Plan:<\/strong>\u00a0This Wednesday will be PLC time.  We will be continuing our PLC work from last time (question #1 &#8211; what do we want students to know)  and building onto it with also considering question #2 &#8211; how will we know if they have learned it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Relationship, Responsibility and Regulation<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Quotes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cDo you know your triggers? The more we become aware of the thoughts, judgements, feelings, and beliefs that accompany our interactions with people who have different beliefs, practices, values, and characteristics, the less likely we&#8217;ll be to allow those triggers to influence our actions in a negative way. <strong>Never forget that every interaction we have is with a person, an actual human being, a fellow traveler on this journey<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Article of the Week:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fordhaminstitute.org\/national\/commentary\/why-dont-evidence-based-practices-take-hold-schools?fbclid=IwAR19bc6m-e41gI6mi2wLVq0_YMrkAM_K7oHtPdFcNWFiK7MWlxpJ5uhrmYQ\"><em>Why don\u2019t evidence-based practices take hold in schools?<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;<em>Education Week<\/em>\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edweek.org\/ew\/collections\/getting-reading-right\/index.html\">recent report<\/a>,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/fordhaminstitute.org\/national\/commentary\/john-white-last-reform-idol\">Getting Reading Right<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0found that the most popular reading curricula in the country are not aligned with settled reading science. The mismatch between practice and science lies mainly in the role of careful phonics instruction in the curricula. Instead of teaching phonics systematically and instructing children to use this method to sound out unfamiliar words, popular reading programs&#8230; emphasize training children to rely on cues to guess words they do not know.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;In spite of solid evidence that reading comprehension depends on content knowledge, most schools persist in trying to teach abstract comprehension skills independently of imparting content knowledge. Wexler raises a question&#8230;: Why have teachers\u2019 beliefs about the best way to teach reading persisted in the face of overwhelming scientific consensus to the contrary?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Inclusive Schools and Learning Specialist Concept: <\/strong> For those who are interested, here is a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1TiGLEqctUg87DE5RKS0tTdh3uQ3DlYlezA_n-AJ2PW8\/edit\">link to a position paper regarding the &#8220;Inclusive Schools Initiative&#8221;<\/a> that Bend-La Pine will be undertaking over the next several years and will likely impact how we go about delivering services to many of our students who qualify for special education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Do:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bingo Night Help:\u00a0<\/strong>Please consider signing up to help out at PTO Bingo night THIS FRIDAY, February 28th.
