I am Mrs. Compton and I am excited to be your child’s Talented and Gifted language arts and social studies teacher. I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer, and that your child is ready for an engaging school year.
This will be my fourteenth year teaching TAG language arts and social studies at Cascade. I attended the University of Oregon for my undergraduate degree and Pacific University for my graduate work, where I also received my certification in Talented and Gifted education. I love to read, write, learn about new cultures, and travel; therefore, being a humanities teacher means I get to share those passions with my students. I love working with 6th graders because I love their energy, humor, and ability to think like young adults, with the curiosity of children. They keep me young at heart (and on my toes)!
I believe that a healthy classroom environment includes open and supportive communication between parents, students, and the teacher. Please feel free to contact me by email at [email protected] or by phone (before or after school) at: 541-355-7054 . To get us started, please do the following:
1)Read and sign the syllabus will be brought home today, and send back only the last page to school.
2) Please bookmark the website in this email as I update it daily (mostly)and it is your best way to know what we’re doing in class, what students need to do at home, and what they should do when absent. This is YOUR BEST way to help them stay on top of work for our class. I know that you all are busy and that we all receive many emails in the course of a day. Therefore, I will only send emails when there are larger projects/events/notices, and hope that you find my website helpful for keeping you informed.
It’s going to be a great year in 6th grade humanities, and I look forward to getting to know each family and student that I have the privilege of working with.
