2021 CASCADE MIDDLE SCHOOL XC
END OF THE SEASON CELEBRATION: Friday, October 22nd from 4:10-5:00PM (Please bring your clean XC jerseys to turn in).
PHILOSOPHY: Our philosophy is to create and implement a positive athletic cross-country program, whereby student athletes will enjoy running, compete and work together with positive attitudes as a team while being SAFE and having FUN.
REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE: Cross Country is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.
These THREE requirements must be completed before your athlete will be eligible to participate in practices and meets for the 2021 school year. Please visit the CMS website for more information under the Student Life/Athletics tab at www.bend.k12.or.us/cascade
1. Register online through FamilyID – Please complete this step FIRST so your athlete is on the roster. FamilyID is a secure, user-friendly online registration platform that allows parents to enter information once for multiple family members and athletic teams.
2. Make sure the main office has a current sports physical on file.
ALL ATHLETES NEED A CURRENT SPORTS PHYSICAL ON FILE BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE.
Sports physicals are required for all 6th grade students competing in Bend-La Pine Schools athletics. Please note that Bend Park & Recreation District (BPRD) may have different requirements. Students who continue to participate in extracurricular sports after 6th grade must complete a physical exam in grades 7, 9, and 11, or if this is their first time participating with a Bend-La Pine Schools team. All physicals must be completed prior to the first day of practice, but not before May 1st of the summer prior to the start of the current academic year.

3. Pay to Pay-To-Play Fee. The Pay-To-Play for the 2021-2022 school year is $40.00. Please pay through theTouchBase program link located on the FamilyID registration page.

SEASON AND PRACTICE: Cross country is a seven week season beginning in September and ending in October. Races are 1.8 miles. At practice, athletes may run anywhere from one to four miles depending on the route. Practices will held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Practice will begin immediately after school at 4:20 p.m. and end at 5:30 p.m., so please plan on picking up your child NO LATER than 5:30 p.m. There will be no adult supervision after practice.
Practice will be organized with social distancing and all safety precautions a top priority. There will be no practice on Wednesdays. However, it is recommended that athletes run for 20-30 minutes (on their own) on Wednesdays.
XC MEET ELIGIBILITY: The following will be taken into consideration when determining an athlete’s eligibility to participate in xc meets.
- GOOD ATTENDANCE and being ON TIME for all practices.
If an athlete is going to miss practice, a note from a parent/guardian is required to excuse the absence or it will be considered an unexcused absence. All athletes will need to be at practice until 5:30 pm or it will be considered a missed practice unless arrangements have been made. Please prearrange absences by emailing Coach Boon or Coach Morris.
Students must be in attendance at school all day to participate in any school-sponsored activity including athletics. The only exception to this OSAA (Oregon School Activities Association) rule is for a doctor or dentist appointment.
EFFORT, positive behavior and attitude during daily practice. Good sportsmanship.
Positive behavior towards teammates, coaches and opponents is expected at all times. Athletes who have TWO warnings for unacceptable behavior will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming meet if a third warning is given. At that time, parents will be contacted.
*Parents/Guardians are responsible for all transportation TO and FROM Cross Country Meets due to a bus driver shortage.
All race start times are approximate depending upon schools showing up on time and races finishing on time.
