Summative Evaluations
Doug, Kim, Scott McD and Scott B will be reviewing the goal setting, self-assessment and summative evaluation process with department leaders to ensure that we are all on the same page as we transition into spring. June 30th is the deadline to have this completed and uploaded into the google drive system created by HR.
From HR Director Triz delaRosa
REMINDER: Any new classified staff member hired after Friday February 6, 2026 will not need to have a summative evaluation completed for the 25-26 school year. Classified employees hired as of February 9, 2026, through the end of the year, will participate in goal setting in the fall and be evaluated for the 26-27 school year. Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
Hope you all continue to cruise through your evaluation process and have experienced some relief in getting all the steps complete. Just a friendly reminder that we need to have files dropped into your provided Google Files as well as the workbooks for HR to have access. If you are having any issues with the sheet, please remember to reach out to Jessica Lamay or me.
We should be starting the summative cycle for classified staff, so if you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you again for all your work on these!

Next week, we’ll be sending out the complete list of each site’s Excellence in Education honoree.
Emails inviting each honoree to the recognition event will go out on Thursday, April 23.
Before that goes out, pleaes take a moment to notify their honorees directly.
We encourage you to start thinking about how you can deliver the news in a celebratory fashion – announce it at a staff meeting, share it in front of peers, or however feels right for your setting. These recognitions reflect the incredible work happening across our system, and we want the entirety of the process to feel meaningful.
The event will take place at Mountain View High School on Wednesday, May 13 from 4:30–6:30 p.m.

The next staff updates are scheduled for the same times on Tuesday, May 26.

Community Engagement Visits: -Action requested-
Don’t forget about the chance to win a gift card ($25-$49.99) to places like El Sancho, Spork, downtown shops, and more! A little motivation and token of appreciation for getting outside your building/office and into the community we serve. (Bingo card here.)
Thanks to all who visited The Giving Plate and Bethlehem Inn! (If you missed those, it’s not too late–reach out to me.) Our next community partner visit is in April, to the Latino Community Association. Sign up here to participate.
While this time of year feels particularly busy, these visits (and/or the average home visit) last 30 minutes or less, and hopefully leave you re-energized and reminded of your ‘why.’ This visit is also a tangible action you can take to support your immigrant and Latino families right now.
Also, for those of you who recently visisted the Kids’ Center with our awesome safety team: Use that as one of your “optional” spots on your Bingo card. One step closer to your prize! 🙂
Black History Month Door-Decorating Contest:
Wow–we had great participation rates this year, with kindergarten through adult groups submitting entries! Check out the submissions. Tomorrow, winners will be contacted via email (we’ll copy building admin so you know if you have a winner in your building–they will also be featured on social media this month) to celebrate and get them their prizes.
Family Nights:
Save the dates: Asian Family Night = Friday, May 1; Latino Family Night = Thursday, May 14. (These are on our district Family Engagement calendar in Outlook.) More information to follow!
May Day:
May 1st celebrates the labor movement and workers’ rights, and is often recognized internationally with protests and rallies. This year, a national “Day Without Immigrants” is also being planned on the same date.
Locally, there are some community groups organizing strikes and community action on May 1st. They are hoping our educators and students will participate in their May Day Strike, and have asked the district to support by facilitating student/staff absences and allowing teams of community volunteers to do service projects on our campuses as a form of the protest on that day.
IT Tip: Never Let an Outage Go to Waste
We recently experienced a software disruption that impacted both students and staff. While outages are never ideal, they do present an opportunity to simplify how we respond in the moment.
One of the most common frustrations during situations like this is trying to determine whether an issue is isolated (user error) or system-wide. To help reduce that uncertainty, the IT team has created a simple, reliable way to check system status in real time:
This dashboard provides:
- A quick view of the operational status of our most commonly used tools
- Real-time updates from our IT team
- A custom message at the top of the page highlighting any known issues
Taking a few seconds to check this page can save time and help you quickly understand what’s happening.
Recommendation: Bookmark the page now so it’s easy to access the next time something isn’t working as expected.
An Additional IT Reminder
As we move into the spring season, please route all IT-related purchases through the IT Department via a ticket or email. Jennefer Scalley, our Operations Manager, will review and help expedite requests to ensure alignment and efficiency.
FLO Analytics Enrollment Forecasting Report
On April 7th, I email a copy of the FLO Analytics Enrollment Forecasting Report to all BLS Admin in preparation for our April 8th meeting. If you have questions about the report before or after our all-admin session, please submit them here. Here is Wednesday’s presentation slide deck.
I’ll be presenting at the May 26th Board work session for a deeper dive into the data. You can attend that session virtually or watch the recording afterwards.

Project Update & Shout Out
The Pacific Crest Middle School tree planting project on April 24 is moving forward and will bring together students, staff, families, and community partners in a meaningful way. This project not only enhances the school environment but also creates hands-on learning and service opportunities for students.
We want to recognize the strong partnership between Pacific Crest Middle School staff, students, and the City’s arborist team in planning an upcoming tree planting event. The level of student engagement—over 50 students through the National Junior Honor Society—is a great example of student leadership in action. The thoughtful planning around volunteer structure and supervision reflects the kind of collaboration that makes these efforts successful.
Transportation
Shout Outs
A big thank you to Gabe Pagano for his outstanding work supporting our athletics and activities transportation. His coordination has played a key role in keeping our programs organized and, most importantly, our students safe.
Project Updates
We are preparing to begin construction at our La Pine Transportation site—an important step forward in strengthening our infrastructure. In addition, the team is gearing up for a significant hiring push this month as we plan for nine upcoming retirements. This will be a critical effort to ensure continuity of service heading into next school year.
Information Technology (IT)
Shout Outs
Congratulations to Rachel Mavis on reaching her one-year mark as Project Manager. Rachel has done an exceptional job guiding system support projects, maintaining momentum, and bringing strong organizational tools—especially her expertise with Smartsheet—to the team.
We also want to recognize our Help Desk team for their consistent, high-quality support to staff across the district.
Project Updates
We are currently piloting the ParentSquare family communication platform in South County. Early feedback has been very positive, and we are continuing training efforts with a full district transition planned for Fall 2026.
In addition, our new district website will launch in the third week of April. The updated platform offers a significantly improved mobile experience and modernized design that better serves our community.
Safety
Shout Outs
We are proud to recognize our School Resource Officers, including Sergeant James Kinsella, who received the Distinguished Service Award at the Bend Police Department’s annual ceremony—an outstanding honor.
We also want to acknowledge the continued partnership work with Kids Center, led by Kayla, which is strengthening our coordinated support for students.
Finally, a special recognition to Lillah Lehner, whose caseload has doubled in recent months due to her strong relationship-building with schools. Her work has significantly expanded our internal capacity for student behavior support, threat assessment, and safety planning—work that was previously outsourced.
Project Updates
We are moving forward with implementation and evaluation of the Raptor Emergency Management system, alongside updates to our emergency response protocols. This work will continue to roll out to all staff during the 2026–27 school year.
Additionally, we are continuing efforts to more fully integrate campus monitor supervision within the Safety Department. This includes strengthening relationships with schools and evaluating the most effective long-term management structure.
