We made it through our first week! I’m so excited to be on this journey with all of you. Thank you for the pom-pom gauntlet, standing outside your doors during passing periods, and for making your classrooms a warm (and demanding) place for learning. Remember the 4-to-1 ratio! (Here’s the 9-minute video we watched.)

Attendance

On the first day, we took attendance for 98% of all our classes. That is awesome! Of course, we need 100% compliance–and we will get there. Remember to take attendance for every class every day.

8:40 AM vs. 8:45 AM

After two days, it’s clear we need to make a change. We had many first-period tardies. A lot of those late students were fussing with their lockers and then running to class. Of course, many students still need practice opening their lockers. But 5 minutes is not a lot of time for all of our students to enter the building, go to their lockers, and make it to class before the bell rings. We’ve spoke to many of you already, and we’ve received overwhelming support to let students enter the main hallway at 8:40 AM instead of 8:45 AM. Please come speak with us if you have questions or comments about this change.

All School Photo Day…this Monday!

Every year our desire is to enjoy a peaceful and smooth photo day and to keep classroom disruptions to a minimum. Take a moment to review the schedule which includes the timeframe for staff photos, but know that staff can “take cuts” in the photo line anytime. The schedule has more info than you need, which is primarily for our four parent volunteers who are helping throughout the day. Please ask your student to respect our volunteers and photographers and to follow their instructions. If you see any glaring issues with the schedule, please contact Deb.

First SIW (School Improvement Wed) Next Week

Next week we’ll meet for our first SIW (teachers only). We’ll meet in the library at 2:30 PM. Here’s our schedule for SIW’s this year. (Please bookmark!) This is a living document, so we’ll change it to fit our needs as the year progresses. Please bring your laptops to SIW.

Back to School Night

Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 28. This will be an old-fashioned Back to School Night where we walk parents and guardians through “a day in the life of your student.” We’re asking everyone to be there, and, in return, we’re making the SIW that same day optional. (You’ll see this note on our SIW Schedule.) Next week, we will send you a Back to School Night guide to help you plan.

Proficiency Levels (0-4 Scale)

Steven Duval recently sent us some more grading resources. Mostly, it’s stuff we’ve already covered, but it’s still good to read again. You’ll find these in our shared Grading Resources folder (Shared Drives>PCMS 2022-23>Grading Resources). One key thing to note: We’re using “Advanced (4/A), Proficient (3/B), Developing (2/C), Beginning (1/D), Missing or Incomplete (0/F)” for our level descriptors. Let’s all use the same descriptors, just like we’re all using the same 0-4 scale. This will make things easier for all of us.

Student Support Form

Please remember to fill out a Student Support Form when there’s a student we need to keep an eye on. This goes for behavior, academics, and social emotional concerns as well. Dan is working on a spreadsheet, which we’ll share soon, that will display all our our relevant data and interventions. We will use this sheet to organize both our grade-level and our content-level work.

Quick Links

PCMS 2022-23 Campus Map

2022-23 Bell Schedule

PCMS Staff Extension List (Confidential list.
