Reggie says, “Thank You for contributing to a successful Giving Plate Toy Drive!” This community is capable of so much good when we band together! YES!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up next is our Giving Plate Canned Food Drive. We are doing this in advisory during December, leading up to our Winter Wonderland Assembly, where we’ll celebrate the winners of an advisory competition (decorating the box that holds the cans of food), honor our band and orchestra and choir, cheer our fall athletes, and play a fun game–all before we send our students off to you for a two-week winter break. “It’s gonna be lit!” as the kids around here used to say. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of “LIT-erature,” are you pumped yet for OBOB?! We will send details in next week’s “News From the Nest.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bike Safety<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While most students are wearing helmets, riding in the bike lanes, and obeying traffic laws, we still have the occasional incident where a student does something dangerous. If your student is riding their bike to school, please remind them to wear a helmet, ride in the bike lane (not on the sidewalk), and obey traffic laws. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Non-Perishable Food Drive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned above in the Principal’s Hello, we are kicking off our non-perishable food drive which benefits The Giving Plate this Monday, December 4 and ending Thursday, 12\/14. Click this flyer<\/a> for items needed. Students can take their non-perishable items to their advisory classrooms for the next two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

iPad Insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is another reminder regarding annual iPad insurance. We highly recommend families to annually purchase optional iPad insurance for $30, with a family cap of $60. Insurance is effective for the current school year. Accidental damage, cracked screens, liquid submersion, fire, flood, theft and vandalism in and out of school are covered. Purposeful damage or lost iPads are not covered. There is no deductible fee for the first claim, $50 deductible fee for each claim thereafter. Insurance typically can be purchased at the time of iPad deployment or online<\/u><\/a> (at the beginning of the school year). After this period, iPads must be inspected at the school’s media center\/library by Ms. Bolling for damage before insurance can be purchased. Click here<\/a> for more info.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Affinity Group Starting Soon<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Pacific Crest, clubs are for students, by students \u2013 meaning that we have clubs that are born out of student interest. There are a few exceptions to this rule, as the Yearbook Club, National Junior Honor Society, and PRISM clubs are adult-led in order to provide some continuity from year-to-year. In this same way, Pacific Crest would like to offer an Affinity Circle group for our students of color. This Affinity Circle group will focus on providing a safe and supportive place for students to discuss their shared experiences. If this is applicable to your student, please talk with them about whether or not they would like to be a part of an Affinity Circle group, or if you would like to be contacted for more information please click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HERO Kids Registry<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This optional registry is a voluntary, no-cost system that lets any Oregon family record critical health information about their child before<\/em> an emergency. Registry information can be accessed quickly by EMS and hospital emergency departments at the moment they need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Registering with HERO Kids is especially useful for young people who are medically fragile, or for those who have complex conditions, developmental disabilities, or mental health conditions. Young people in a crisis can\u2019t always communicate their needs. Family members may not be present, or they may too distressed to help. Language barriers can impede communication. HERO Kids Registry can help offset some of these challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents and legal guardians can register their child or young adult with HERO Kids online, and there is a paper registration option for people who prefer it. Young adults aged 15-26 can register themselves. HERO Kids Registry is secure and HIPAA-compliant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
