RHS Staff Update: 9-7-21

Hello, Mighty, Noble, Staff Crew!

Things are looking awesome in classrooms all around the school! I really appreciate the final push to get things ready for kiddos… I’m stoked to get them in here!

Below I have a few pieces of info/reminders/requests:

Quick Staff Huddles To Help Us Through Days 1, 2 & 3

8:00AM (sharp) – 8:10AM Wednesday morning -see the whites of each others’ eyes, make sure we are all CLEAR on the agenda of the day, group cheer!

3:45PM (sharp) – 4:00PM Wednesday afternoon. Repeat the morning process to make sure we are “good to go” on Thursday’s agenda.

3:45 (sharp) – 4:00 Thursday. QUICK debrief of day #1 and review of Friday agenda.

All three meetings will be in the “middle commons” (since we have the Great Wall, should we call the “middle commons” something cool too? Like “Middle Earth”?!

Cleaned Up Agenda For Wed Freshman Orientation

This is ALSO on our “Quick Links Portal”. Here is the team’s cleaned up agenda for Wednesday. 9th grade DisOrientation Overview

Seating Charts & Attendance

Seating Charts are required for contact tracing… and a good idea in general! If you would like support in setting up Seating Charts in Synergy please let me (Zach) know.

Attendance: Please complete attendance at or near the beginning of class whenever possible. Tip: If you use Synergy for your Seating Chart this may become easier!!

Reimbursements – From Jennifer

If you need to make a purchase you need to check out a credit card from Jennifer AND get approval for the purchase. With so much going on right now there is simply no time for Jennifer to complete random reimbursements for personal purchases.

1st Week Welcome Back WebEx For Parents/Students

You probably saw that we are hosting a WebEx Welcome back for families on THURSDAY NIGHT at 6PM this week! TEACHERS – you are NOT required to come!! You are, of course, WELCOME to attend, however the focus is not on curriculum! Our main topics are below and the staff below are planning to attend!

  • Mission/Vision – RW/ZH
  • SPED/504 & Student Support Services – Karla/Brandon and hopefully Kristin &/or Kat
  • Office Logistics – Lisa &/or Jennifer (need to check with you 🙂 on this)
  • College/Career and Dual Credit – Jen Rule & possibly Michelle Hanford

Heavy SPED Loads??

Some teachers have noticed that they have a lot of students with IEPs and 504s in some of their classes. This could be for a few reasons:

First, our population of students receiving SPED services is nearly a third of our overall student population. That means that on average you should expect 7 or 8 out of a class of 24. What’s cool about that is that we meet the needs of a LOT of historically underserved kids in our District… and we do it WELL! So thank for being a part of that effort!

Additionally, we have tried to put slightly more students in classes where we have an assigned support staff member (Brittany, Martha, or Karla). That said, we are NOT trying to move to a full-on sheltered-instruction model! If you are looking at class populations where the SPED population is sneaking up toward half or beyond, then that is unintended!! We have identified a few reasons why this might have happened, but it isn’t worth spelling out here.

My ask is that you please let us know if you notice a severely imbalanced class. You can talk to Zach, Roger, Karla, or Brandon about this and we will do our best to even things out.

Needed: Sustainability Advisor

We are still looking to fill our School Sustainability Advisor position! THERE IS MONEY AND GOOD FEELS ATTACHED TO THIS ROLE 🙂 If you are interested in taking this on and helping us all be greener, please let us know! See the link below for more details:
