Master “Year Long” Calendar – RHS Staff
Here is the link to our staff calendar. Read on for clarification on what those days mean!
BTA has 4 non-contact days in the year (1 grading day per trimester and 1 comp day for 4 hours of conferencing outside the day in Fall and Spring
RHS has an additional 5 non-contact days specifically for EL Education related PD (which usually ALSO includes some planning time). Oct 1, 28, 29, Feb 4, April 15
The three end of trimester grading days are scheduled for last day of trimester (Dec 17, Apr 1, June 17
Student Led Conferences: SLC’s at RHS are more involved and we aim for (and usually get VERY CLOSE to)100% participation. There are 4 hours of conference time required outside the contract day scheduled across Wed/Thurs Dec 1st, 2nd and then another 4 hours across Wed/Thurs March 16th, 17th. These 4 hours are “comp’d” on Friday Dec 3rd and Friday March 18th.
We do not yet have an “Presentations of Learning” scheduled… TBD.
INTENSIVES – 4 days at end of 1st and 2nd trimester. 5th day is grading day.
RHS Recurring Meeting Structure
At RHS we have 35 minutes less “contact time” per day with students due to bus impacted bell schedule. This equals 175 minutes of extra “time in our schedule” per week for teacher prep, planning and collaboration as needed!
- Tuesday morning ICCL – 7:40-8:30
- Wednesday SIW: 2:00-4:00 (additional voiceover needed here)
- 2:00 – 2:25 – MTSS Download & Discussion facilitated by Student Success Team
- 2:30 – 4:00 – SIW : see SIW planner for details
- Typically 2 or 3 per month are “school discretion”
- 1/month teacher directed & sometimes 1/month “educator network”
- Thursday Grade Level + RACI Teams: 3:15-4:00 after this week
- Grade Level Crew Planning
- RACI Teams
- Expedition Planning
- Planner found on Thursday Tab of our SIW Planner. Will be a bit of a “learn and tune as we go”!!
- Friday Staff Crew – 8:10-8:30
- Strengthening staff community & culture – not just an extra staff meeting!
Keeping 3:10 Dismissal Bell Schedule
After quick consult with transportation we are keeping our 3:10PM dismissal time and existing bell schedule. Please DO always dismiss NO LATER than 3:10PM. It might be handy to keep 3:05 in mind!! If you dismiss between 3:05 and 3:10, that will be perfect!
We are monitoring lae arriving AM busses and giving the transportation folks a little more time to HOPEFULLY get route logistics ironed out. Thanks for your patience with late busses in the AM… we know that it is an impact on kids and 1st period classes.
From Lisa!
When marking students late in Synergy, please use “LUn” not “LAu” (Late Unverified not Late Authorized).
If a student is more than 5 minutes late to class, please send them up to the front office. Starting Monday, any students who have checked in with Lisa will be arriving with a “pink slip”.
Parents occasionally call to ask that a student who was marked “absent” be changed to “present”. Obviously teachers are the only ones who know the truth in these cases, so you may get a few of those emails going forward. Please answer these parents as best you can and CC Lisa.
Tuning Up Lunch
Just FYI (in case you are wondering). Kem, Harju and Roger are aware that our lunch eating situation is not currently jiving with our District generated COVID-related guideline. We are working on it. Plan is to shift, this week towards:
- MORE STUDENTS OUTSIDE for lunch by limiting indoor seating to 2 students/table
- no eating in carpeted Commons areas
- reminding students to put masks back on when finished eating
Photos From Week 1 & Photos Generally
Do you have photos from Week 1 OR any good photos of students learning – please share! Telling the story of our school is important!
We typically use Google Photos. Create an album and share it with Roger. However, if you are pressed for time, and that is too complicated, DON’T hoard your photos… you can just send them to Roger by text or email! Sometimes Roger will create an album and share it with you for you to drop into.
Here is a 1st Week 2021 Album… please share/drop pics!
Classroom Mini-Observations/Walk-Thru’s
Starting next week Zach and Roger are going to (try to!) start getting into classes for 5-10 minute “mini-observations”.
What do these look like?? Brief, unannounced visits ever few weeks with a face-to-face conversation after each one (same day).
Why this way? It allows more meaningful conversations about teaching and learning, and allows us to see more snapshots of more classrooms.
I (Zach) am personally really excited to get started having these pedagogical conversations and celebrations! And… thanks in advance for coming to us directly with any concerns this system brings up.
Notes from our Canvas Coaches
EAs and SpEd teachers: EAs should be listed as Observers; SpEd teachers should be listed as TAs.
TAs: Kat ([email protected]), Karla ([email protected]), Brandon ([email protected])
Observers: Martha Campbell (email coming), Brittany Warren ([email protected])
Getting help: Feel free to stop by Danny or Tyler’s room after school. If it’s something quick, drop by Tyler’s room during 2nd period or Danny’s room during 5th period. Need help another time? Shoot us an email or we can set up another time that works for you!
Make sure your courses from last year have been concluded and are now listed as Past Enrollments. See Danny or Tyler if you need help doing this.
Quizzes: Classic Quizzes will eventually be going away, but likely not this school year. Sounds like it is the better option for now because “New Quizzes” still has some bugs. Before Classic Quizzes goes away (likely sometime next year), teachers will be able to convert their Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes.
Some Canvas help links are listed under “Canvas” on the Realms Portal, and there’s more to come!
