Dear Realms HS Team,
This is indeed the middle of the middle, and can be one of the toughest times of the school year! The launch energy has faded and the light at the far end of the tunnel is barely visible! However, I just want to celebrate our accomplishments so far… by MANY MEASURES we had a REALLY awesome 1st semester of our school’s launch year, and I am looking forward to what is ahead. 5 weeks left until Spring Break!!
- Week 1:
- Sarah P on site Tues-Wed
- Karen A out Wed-Fri
- Week 2:
- 2nd (and hopefully last) Info/Q&A night on Tuesday pm
- 10th Grade Coffee House on Thursday pm
- 2019-20 Accept-Decline answers due – Thursday
- Week 3:
- Mark out for Baby South’s arrival
- Challenge Day – Thursday
- Student led conferences 3 wks away
- Weeks 4 & 5:
- 10th gr Zolo media optional
- no other big events planned
Some other “initiatives” that I am working on include:
- gathering staff and student input on staffing and master schedule ideas for 2019-20 school year so we can hire in late April
- working with Janet Lansburgh to plan and coordinate some adventure offerings this Spring
- offering a “Thinking About Your Junior Year” evening in early May to support our sophomores and their families – share info about Junior year in general and Junior year at Realms HS in particular
An Ask: Your 1st Semester HOSS Scores For Our SLGG’s
As you are being so kindly reminded by TalentEd each week we have to input our 2 SLGG’s here at some point. So, Sarah and I are going to shape two school wide goals based on INDEPENDENT LEARNER scores and COLLABORATION scores from 1st semester. The plan is that we will basically shape these goals and all the verbiage you need in order to get TalentEd off your back! To do this I NEED SOME DATA from you prior to Wednesday morning. We’ll get the data crunched and goals set in time to roll out at our Wednesday meeting.
** Can you please go into our EBISS spreadsheet and enter your 1st semester final standard scores for Indep. Learner and Collab. for 10th graders and either 9A OR 9B, whichever you prefer. We will use this data as our baseline data
Tuesday Schedule (& mtg) Switch Up

In order to try and balance out a little of our imbalance from two missed Mondays in a row, we have tweaked the Tuesday schedule as follows. Please know this means you will need to take attendance on paper on Tuesday as Synergy won’t be sync’d up! Jennifer will have paper class lists for you to use. It also means that SS and Span have double periods.
Thanks to everyone for their flexibility in supporting each others needs here!
ALSO – can we please plan on switching our Thursday after school meeting to Tuesday this week so that we can make the most of our time with Sarah Purdy? The idea would be to meet from 2:30 – 3:30 on Tuesday.
Education Foundation Grant For 19-20
We should have a quick conversation about this… we’d be crazy not to apply as our chances are strong! The conversation then is around what do we target for funding?? I am happy to lead the writing of the grant. Ideas include:
- $ to fund materials for STEM and Arts/Music Intensives?
- $ to fund wellness related initiative of some kind? (pump & stretch? adventure fieldwork?)
- $ to fund an expedition related project tied to one of our existing 9th-10th grade expeditions
THE INFO: The 2019-2020 Classroom Grant program of the Education Foundation for Bend-La Pine Schools opens Monday, February 18, 2019 and closes by 5 pm on Friday, March 22, 2019. 10th Grade Presentation of Learning – A Coffee House (2/28/19)
Thanks to Karen, Michelle and Paul for continuing to work on the planning and preparation for our 10th grade Presentation of Learning. We have a draft of the agenda for the evening and I know that these three teachers are going to be pressing pretty hard to help students be ready, especially because Karen A will be out on the 7th grade Warm Springs trip later this week.
I have put together a flyer for the evening and will post on social media, email to parents and print copies for campus. Please feel free to send this to friends, family and community members!
