Materials Pick Up Protocols

To reduce the number of extra trips our parents make to the school, Roger and I agreed that coordinating the material pick up through the front office (with Jennifer and Lisa) makes the most sense.  Some supplies can be picked up during LIPI or during after school programs.  Since I am the “keeper of all the lists”  it’s easy for me to check my lists and make a plan to pass materials to students when they are on campus. Some materials can be mailed home.

  • If you have materials that need to be picked up by families, please let me know a minimum of one week prior. LONGER IS BETTER!  I will ask for the list of students and all the materials – preferably packaged and ready to go out the door.
  • We would like, when possible, to SYNC material pickups across classes so that one family does not need to make visits to campus 2 weeks a row for 2 different classes when we could have sync’d those
  • Jennifer is similarly the go to coordinator for material return processes – pls work with her!
  • If you have communication that needs to go home with the materials, please compose your email and send it to me.  Let me know what date you’d like it to go out and I will send it as a School Messenger email.  I will add the pick up times/dates that work for the office. I will also ask families to reply to me if they need additional time or a home delivery is requested.
  • We are limiting the hours for material pick up between 8-10 and then 1-3.  If a family is unable to pick up their supplies during the time frame that is given, we will do our best to organize a time that works for them.  Additionally, I can leave materials outside in a tote with a secure lid for an evening or early morning pick up.  Lisa and I will also plan a morning of home deliveries for those who simply cannot make it to school.

As you can see, there are many logistics to having students stop by to grab materials! It is not an easy process.   I believe by routing all the outgoing materials through the office, it will minimize stress for everyone involved.  The check in/check out system has been a little clunky and the quantity of returned materials so far has been poor.  We will make every effort to remind families to return the supplies, but when possible, it makes sense to send home items that don’t need to be returned.  Talk to me if you have any questions or if you need help making a plan.  I’m always happy to help!

YOUTH TRUTH SURVEYS – STUDENTS, STAFF & FAMILIES IN JANUARY

BLSD is shifting the “student survey landscape” around and moving away from some older surveys they used and to this new multi-stakeholder version that all schools are being asked to administer. We WILL have the opportunity to dig into and learn from the data SOON after it is administered.

I will announce the YouthTruth Survey on Monday January 12th in our MoM meeting and if you could administer it on Tuesday January 13th OR Thursday January 15th in Crew that would be excellent. It will take 20 minutes, so please factor it into lesson plan for the day and ask students to submit a screenshot as a Crew assignment (for or NOT for points, your call).

TIMESHEETED “extra” CURRICULUM PLANNING

I am hoping to find ways to support you, our amazing teaching team, in your efforts to continue to shift from the planning mode where we are planning the next day’s lesson late at night (or over breakfast) to something that feels more sane, sustainable, and “planned out”. That said, we KNOW that good teaching is also RESPONSIVE, meaning that we are always tweaking lessons to respond to formative assessment and where students are at.

I ALSO WANT YOU TO HAVE THE BREAK YOU NEED – NO MATTER WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE FOR YOU!!!!!!

So, this offer ought NOT to be construed as PRESSURE from me, but rather as an offer (and NOT an ask):

If you are currently in “special project mode” of any kind (like designing a new course, a new expedition, or a new “project”, including Crew, since that feels all pretty new) and you would like to “GET AHEAD” on that planning work over the Break, then I am willing to support you with a small number of timesheeted hours.

All you need to do is to reach out to me with an email, tell me what it is that you want to work on and we can make a plan.

Hopefully this offer feels supportive. There is no pressure here!

STAY TUNED FOR MID YEAR MEET UPS WITH ROGER

I will be sending out my Appointlet link to you all shortly with an ask for you to book a couple of appointments with me!

First, I’d like to have a mid-year check in with each of you to hear what is going well for you, what you are wrestling with, your feedback and suggestions for me as your school leader and more! My goal is to meet with each of you for 20(ish) minutes in the month of January.

Second, I would also like to ask you to schedule at least one WebEx class “drop in” with me during the months of January/February where I will observe class.

Just wanted you to know that this is coming!
